- Regular Members - Dancers
How do I rank up between the regular ranks?
Rankups are done by class attendance and being the best picks in class. Rank-ups between the roles are done weekly on Fridays.
The dancer ranks are the regular ranks and simply members of our community, and may choose to participate however they want. As of now, members of any regular rank may try out for the other roles.
- Dancer
Our regular members who share SDS’s vision. As the starting rank, they’re here to build their skill and channel their passion through SUMMER Dance Studio.
Note that the Dancer role does not determine amateurship or skill–they are respected members of the community, and participate in SUMMER’s activities like everyone else.
- Progressing Dancer
Budding talents who start to stand out, by actively attending classes and being the choreographers’ class best picks. They are active members of the community, too.
- Intermediate Dancer
Those in this medium rank are focused on polishing their foundational skills and exploring other areas.
- Advancing Dancer
When intermediates have stood out several more times, they will be contacted to try out for this rank in front of a judge panel. (Can be done more than once, if they don’t pass at first time).
Advancing dancers have perfected their foundations, show exceptional sense and taste on their skills, and thus is a harder rank to achieve than its predecessors. Yet as the second-highest rank, they are considered senior and are encouraged to try for the main roles.
- Senior Dancer
The highest tier regular rank. Those who are awarded, well-known, and/or have senior experience are respected with this rank. This rank is manually chosen by the Board. They are the most welcome if they do decide to go for management/main roles.
Those who have retired from main roles will be returned to this rank.
- Main Roles
While the regular ranks only have a casual role, the main roles have a special duty in the studio.
- SUMMER Dance Team
They are the performers and official representatives of the studio. For the team performers, excellent teamwork is their highlight, being able to coordinate between the members in a team performance.
They are our official representatives when participating in competitions–they are versatile in other groups’ styles and moves. On the side, they may hold beginner classes and co-host with choreographers in their classes. They may hold a double role with Choreographers.
- Choreographers
The choreographers are the teachers and faces of the studio, knowledgeable and experienced dancers who are ready to teach. They create choreographies with their own color, hold and arrange all kinds of classes, including their own. They can create their own personal classes. They may promote between the dancer ranks (with approval) and participate in sharing their ideas with the managing departments. Their purpose is to introduce and spread passion to members of SDS.
Unless in a teaching scenario, choreographers are in the same hierarchy as the dance team: while the dance team specializes in the craft, choreographers have a focused teaching duty. They work hand-in-hand with the SUMMER Dance Team.
- Managing Roles
- Board of Directors
Managers of SDS’s backdoor operations, and parts of the decision makers and ideas of the studio, but separate from the main creative duty of SDS (dance). They can manage SDS on behalf of the Creative Director. Some departments may have more than one director, and the same director can be a part of several departments.
The Director position is selected to people with highly commendable critical thinking, teamwork, integrity and problem-solving.
