Rare Roblox Engine Client Side Character Name Bug Discovered

Your bug report must have:

An accurate title - Engineers should know what the bug is before opening the thread. Be specific!

A detailed description - Explain what you expect, and what happens instead.

What I expect is the name of the character to display in game the same way it does on the server side and instead it just shows absolutely nothing

Where it happens - It happens both in game on Roblox Studio as well as in game on the Roblox Application

When it happens - 5/19/2025 at 5:00 PM [EST]

Reproduction instructions and files - See below

Roblox Engine Client Side Name Bug.rbxm (32.4 KB)

Put the Client Side Name Bug into Roblox Studio in the workspace. You should notice the exact same behavior where you are only able to visibly see the name on the Server Side or on Roblox Studio.

Just to be clear, are you saying you expect to see the name of your own character above your head? It is intentional that it does not.

No. The pictures are showing the character that is the rbxm file. Which is a separate character in the game. Not your own

Edit: Sry I could have afforded to instruct where to place the file. It goes in the workspace.

I’m pretty sure when stuff like this happens it’s because the engine cannot reach the character/avatar service which loads your avatar and falls back to a default one. This happens with characters using the default blocky form rendering as a noob sometimes if you have a poor connection.

I appreciate your input but it has nothing to do with this. Roblox platform itself like it did today has issues sometimes that revert it back to the noob. The noob has no trouble displaying names even during issues with Roblox. I took a silly picture today with everyone dressed as noobs lol.

The only thing so far that makes any sense is ironically what Roblox Staff indicated. There is a possibility that the corrupted NPC is somehow tricking the engine into thinking it’s your own player character when really it’s an NPC which is completely separate. Who knows. I am sure this could take awhile for them to figure out so it is best for everyone to wait patiently as they investigate this. Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

sorry, these might be dumb questions but

  • Does this happen 100% of the time?
  • Did you edit the humanoid name display properties? Try doing so.

I know better to not just post a bug report without thoroughly testing it but all good no worries
