What do you want to achieve?
I’ve been working several games, and they’ve been looking great. However, I’ve been having trouble understanding and applying game feel to them. Like how some games, usually outside of Roblox, can evoke certain emotions? Feelings the creators intended or directly made you feel through game design. They’re intricately crafted with purpose and deliberate intent, which is what makes them feel like a Real game.
What is the issue?
I’ve attempted to implement polish (which is the main answer I see online: polish and “juice”) through adding sounds, particles, camera effects, tween effects, animations, UI, and even by adding better movement mechanics. But even with all of this, it still feels a bit bland in some areas.
Sometimes, I want to implement a cool idea or just add something, but I struggle more so with executing it in a way that feels right. Usually, the results are fine, but not what I envisioned.
What solutions have you thought of so far?
I look into and play a lot of other games in and outside of Roblox for inspiration, but I don’t know how to interpret certain choices that the creators have made.
What I’m mainly looking for
I’m hoping to get answers to questions like:
- How do you think about game feel when designing mechanics?
- What should I be analyzing when playing other games?
- Are there specific design principles, workflows, or mental models you use?
- Any Roblox-specific advice for achieving strong game feel?
Any insight, resources, and other information would be appreciated!
