I’ve noticed the recent change of the price floor for accessories and layered clothing as a UGC creator.
it’s more harmful than helpful when it comes to promoting a healthy catalog environment and should be reverted.
To fill anyone in what that implies, more detailed accessories with normal, roughness and metalic maps are more expensive than items without. here’s a post that is an accouncement for the release of this feature here I’m going to explain several points as to why a higher price floor is a BAD idea for these items
1. people almost always buy anything cheaper
If you have created any layered clothing item from 2021 that has special material maps, congratulations, you will now be outdone by someone because they can make their own version cheaper
Pretty self explanatory, players want to stretch out their funds to get as many items as possible if they want to customize their avatar. Rough example, but lets just say a player named Bobby wanted a white shirt with a chain.
Bobby sees a shirt that is 55 robux instead of 60 robux. Bobby doesn’t care about the fact there’s no advanced material maps. Bobby will then buy the cheaper option.
2. 5 robux increase doesn’t make you gain much at all.
Yes, It does technically give you more robux, but in return you will get less sales because well, theres cheaper alternatives. If anything 5 robux would realistically get you 1 more robux if that per sale. I’m going to show a visual example of one of my items before this change and a little while after it was applied
the dotted line above is the revenue before the change, and the line below that is this week’s revenue. It’s actually dropped significantly due to the fact a higher price discourages players to buy something like this.. It’s actually generally harmful for items that have PBR.
I’ve also even attempted to create an accessory with PBR to see if it would perform at all.
spoilers, it didn’t do jack ####. While it may be coincidence that this just didn’t hit the algorithm yet, that alone along with my layered clothing with PBR’s performance dropping heftily, it’s safe to say this price change is harmful. I actually feel rather discouraged to make PBR accessories and now layered clothing due to the fact higher quality will affect my prices for the worse.
While I understand PBR textures are enhanced in quality and value, I feel like PBR should be normalized and not considered a luxury for all users. There’s no reason for PBR accessories to be a higher price in 2025
