What hell is it looks damn amazing
I think I gonna use this on my game but doesnât it bypass Roblox
yeah no, its definitely your fault.. and what would you suggest they do exactly? run constant moderation checks everytime a editable image gets updated? because that wouldnt even be a feasible ask
âBut if someone hacked my game and gained access to the screen, they could easily display inappropriate stuff.â Hello ??
yeah, youre right. People also use imageLabels to show bypassed images, and people can use textLabels to say bad things, so lets lock those behind id verification aswell. While were at it, lets also require id verification to use parts, because someone may use them to build nsfw things
its not an opinion, youre just wrong lmfao, and thats why this is a feature request
yeah its alittle slower, i guess you cant do anything bad with it..
@MRLOSER_HAHAha actually a point to make here, yes, you can create inappropriate builds/images with parts/frames, but you can report the place and take screenshots and hope roblox takes it down, same goes with editableimages
i know you have concerns about this, but the way you use editable images/meshes is just a more complex way of bypassing systems which you can already do, and is something i have run across countless times in chat, studios toolbox (decals and free models), audio (hell across 2 days i heard 3 people spamming racial slurs over a radio), and have heard tos violating language in voice chat which really only warrants a brief mute, and ive ran across builds with adult/extremist topics within games where you can just freely build more times than i can even care to count. hell ive even been targeted within a specific âcommunityâ of bad actors which roblox is known for having an issue with (and gladly im smart enough not to fall for it). both their accounts are still up btw. so it doesnt make sense if all that can happen without an id (or really any moderation knowing what roblox is like), meanwhile one low risk feature is locked behind an id which you can only somewhat circumvent with a local file which you cant publish
hell ive even encountered straight up illegal content on the toolbox which i obviously wont go into, and have reported, but do know that finding bad stuff happens often on this platform. so often that even i, someone who barely goes into or uses any of these, can run into quite easily. editable images and meshes are just more complex since you have to manually write the data into a buffer or write/find code to do it for you, which already exists and has existed in the form of using parts instead of buffers since before editableimages/meshes even existed
and ik ive already made this point, but i wouldnt really think an id would prevent bad actors from putting that stuff on them anyways since all you need is an id, and to my knowledge, roblox doesnt ban ids used by bad actors, so they can just keep using it over and over again
and you can (and should) add security to your game by using methods to prevent wrong client data like incorrect images from being displayed, or find a way to prevent access to a games remoteevents. it really should be a top priority to add those in a game where an editableimage is used and edited on the server to prevent bad actors from gaining control of them
going back to my own graphics project, i dont really need to worry about bad actors since an editableimage is only ever changed on the client (and most editableimage based projects only edit them on the client. even brookhaven has its canvasâs paint feature locked on a client-sided editableimage that nobody else can see), which would make it far more difficult to display bad imagery on other peoples screens. the only instances of bad actors that most people would need to worry about is people who can change whats actually in the game (like the skybox, parts, model/folder contents, etc) and them making a game hard or impossible to play for other players, but you really should get around to adding security checks since youre doing it on the server
and an id is completely pointless for pretty much all use cases as it limits what some developers who either dont have, or are unwilling to give id from developing what they want. i dont have an id usable with persona. i do have a uk specific one which is a legal, government provided id, but it has slight format differences from a regular national id which make persona unable to read it properly (hell half the time it thinks it expired in 2008 when it really expires in 2034), and besides, what would the point of forcing a more difficult to use and control feature to be locked behind an id when you could join a random game and just out of the blue hear someone screaming stuff they shouldnt be down the mic? doesnt make sense in a lot of peoples eyes which is why im suggesting the required id verification is removed
just did the face verification so i could use chat next year. stupid decision from roblox but it got me as over 13
it still wont let me use editablemeshes or images. funny thing is i have VERY visible facial hair and am very clearly over 13. really do hate how roblox locks pointless features behind id verification, cause that just isnt an option for me at the moment
This would be a very bad idea, it would have bad players / bots that would make images that breaks ToS
They already do this on a regular basis even with normal Decal uploads and even just using modules that do something similar to EditableImage with frames instead, things cannot possibly be made any worse than they already are by removing the ID requirement here.
Every feature can be abused. You can also visually create anything with parts, EditableImages just makes it more convenient. Either way, the experience will be moderated for showing something against the ToS.
About that, they should add ID verif requirement for upload an asset (pictures, mesh, âŚ)
No. Thatâs how you drive every developer away from the platform and send everything crashing down into the ground.
This already happens. Often
Ive seen several assets within the first 10 pages in the toolbox, one of which was even illegal content. Locking a tedious to use feature behind an id is pretty pointless when i could go into studio right now and build smtn diabolic
And adding id to upload anything would just kill roblox. In probably less than a year
Roblox relies on the freedom of creation that it has now. If they get rid of that, 90+% of developers are gone, producing less revenue, meaning investors leave, killing roblox
On that case, why not just move to another game engine
Yep, canât even use these clouds (3D Custom Dynamic Clouds - Extension for 3D Atmosphere) because of forced ID verification.
I think regardless of opinions on this topic, developers should be able to use the editable mesh API in studio without ID verification. If they want to keep it for published experiences then sure. I donât personally agree with it but I donât see why developers canât at least test the API in studio for non-published experiences.
The documentation seems to imply that the ID verification limitation already should only apply to published games to begin with.
I see yeah it does say that but I canât seem to use the API in studio even when my place isnât published. When I tried to use the API on a private unpublished place saved to roblox in studio I was not able to use it.
Though I recall that I was able to use the API when I downloaded a local file of one of the test places they showed off on release, but only when that file was on my machine and not saved to Roblox. Perhaps this is a bug then?
If the game is not saved to Roblox at all it doesnât need an ID, itâs weird because bad actors can just combine decals to make inappropriate images so..
if you save the file directly to your pc instead of to roblox then you can access the apis, if you press ctrl+shift+s or click file and navigate to âsave to fileâ or âsave to file asâ then you can save it to your pc, but you will lose access if you open a version which is not in a local file
Even better id verification dosent work, i give them my id, they ask for my face, despite my photo on my id being taken when i was like 10. After i scan my face a error pops up asks me to rescan my face i do 10 times, nothing. i quit the app, i come back later, and the button dosent even work, it just gets stuck on the loading screen
both age verifs are pretty bad tbf
i done the one to scan my ID, and since im scottish i have a young scot card which is basically just an id you get given from 12-26 years old. scanned it multiple times, didnt work even when its usable as id in at least most of the uk tmk (which could be why it didnt accept)
scanned my face, and at the time i had facial hair that youd only really see on a 15-17 yo. still put me in 13+ when rn im approaching 18
