Remove the 100-Game Limit on Parental Blocking & Add More Features

Hello, I’m a parent and I recently discovered that Roblox currently limits parental blocking to 100 experiences per child account. This restriction makes it extremely difficult to properly safeguard our children.

I strongly request that Roblox remove this limit and allow unlimited blocking of experiences within parental controls. There are thousands of inappropriate or exploitative games on the platform many of them clones or copies. I’ve already filled my 100-block limit on just one type of game, yet hundreds of others remain accessible.

Adjusting age ratings isn’t an effective solution, as most of these games are mislabeled with “Minimal” or “N/A” maturity ratings, allowing children to access them regardless of account age settings. Parents should have the tools to actively protect their kids without arbitrary restrictions.

Please make this change. It is critical for parents to be empowered to shield children from inappropriate and exploitative content, especially when Roblox’s moderation cannot guarantee these games are removed in a timely manner or that our kids will be exposed to sexual content.

Additionally, having a whitelist system to only allow our child to play only games we allow would be a great alternative and our kids could ask us to be allowed to play games. Or other features such as filtering, or banning games with key words to stop inappropriately age rated games from being played by our kids.

Thank you for considering this important request.

I’m not sure why there’s even a limit on the amount of games you could block, given how new inappropriate games are often popping up on the site and how little Roblox tends to moderate bad actors. (Tried reporting a bad actor several months back, and he’s still on the platform harming people)

As filtering by age ratings isn’t an effective solution for games which don’t have their questionnaires filled out properly (as most bad actors would likely say no to everything on the form so that their game can be played by all ages, as was the case with many “hug” games) perhaps it would also be wise to add the ability to block games by keywords in the name or description, ie you could add words like “hangout”, “bathroom” etc to block those kinds of games properly (even if they’re incorrectly rated as all ages)

+1 on this. I monitor a sibling’s activity on Roblox and the blocked games limit being only 100 is far too little for the amount of inappropriate things on this platform that are let go. I end up having to unblock one potentially inappropriate game for a new one that’s more popular, as Roblox ends up recommending popular inappropriate games to the child via their algorithm anyway.

There are games that are vaguely inappropriate on this platform that I’d rather not allow the sibling to play.

For examples of inappropriate games that are considered “vague” enough to be allowed on the platform that I’ve had to block because the sibling had no idea that they were inappropriate:

I’d love for the Parental Controls for blocked games to be extended to blocked terms in general. I’d love to block ALL of the “infection” games from being accessed at all by blocking the term “infection”. There are way too many “Infection” games to be able to block them all manually by hand.

The exact same reason you can’t block more than 1000 people (note: that used to be as low as 50 people), and considering the recent news/drama going on I think you can probably have an educated guess at it.

It’s probably because the page will take longer to load with an unlimited limit and they couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to optimize that. A better feature would be adding the ability blocking words in game titles/descriptions.

Update: Roblox staff sent me a direct message saying they agreed they see this as an issue and are looking into it!

Edit: Looks like the message is a default copy and paste that the forum team usually sends, hopefully Roblox staff sees this and takes real action.

This is a child safety feature, this is not to the same comparison as just blocking users that you can avoid by turning your online status off. This is to protect children. There shouldn’t be a limit on things like this. I can understand limits on normal things like blocking users in general but not for a feature like this designed to help parents protect their children when there are too many games on the platform. I will sit and block every hug game, bathroom game, r63 game if I have to for hours to protect my kid to the best of my ability. I would never unblock those games to begin with so I am not worried about seeing the list afterwards. All they would need to do is add a search if you wanted to find a specific game you blocked to the blocked page and you can unblock it that way.

Me thinks its because APIs like this tend to be pagnated and they were too lazy to implement said pagnation on the front end.

Got to push half-baked “safety updates” out the door I guess

This reminds me when the limit of blocked users was 50. I was clueless as to why it was 50, but it was 50, for years.

This is VERY inefficient. I think it would be very reasonable to suggest that Roblox adds a whitelist option. This opens up possibilities for new parental features as well, such as requesting experiences to be allowed. Removing the limit is certainly a step in the right direction, but at this rate, safety can only be truly possible with a whitelist, and that whitelist has to include places that aren’t the starter places.

Probably some lame technical limitation. Guessing it’s a similar reason friends used to be limited to 200, blocked users to 50, custom outfits to 50, etc. Roblox wouldn’t just randomly choose to impose arbitrary limits like this.

They could add keyword blocking which would work for some keys like bathroom/shower games but also other types of games could be innocent with certain keywords. I don’t wanna restrict my kid from every game on roblox but since I am an active developer and parent on Roblox I would more than certainly take my time to block games as often as I can that I know host bad content or enable bad content in them.

Every platform limits user blocking etc.. but this is a choice of Roblox, them allowing more should not effect them really at all as the data isn’t worth that much in terms of storage space. If Roblox can host millions of files of shirts and pants they can more than certainly allow infinite for this specific data set. The other things like user blocking can more than easily be avoided by leaving a game, joining a new server, and now being able to turn your online status offline so you can avoid certain users even if you hit your block limit.

But for a feature designed to protect your kids from harmful content especially with the amount of harmful content that goes unmoderated on Roblox and or have incorrect game ratings, this should have been a no brainer to be infinite as well as other features to make blocking easier for parents which could include things like keyword blocking or being able to set specific games that your child can only play so they can come to you and ask you to whitelist specific game(s) and only allow them to play those specific games and no others on the platform so your child can get your approval or even request approvals by email for a parent to approve if they are in different places to be more efficient to be done on mobile etc. that way parents can 100% control what content they are exposed to on the platform.

Storage space isn’t the only technical limitation that needs to be considered. There’s also other things like how it affects places like search or recommendations (perhaps these are currently designed to work more performantly and efficiently with such a small block limit in mind, for example).

theres another problem with this:

  1. Age restriction is optional you don’t have to go thru the questionare so i think roblox should force all developers to go thru questionare (right now its like: any developer doesnt have to do questionare and their game gets labeled as N/A instead)
  2. Developers can lie in the questionare to get below 13 ranking while the game is like 13+ and not below (you get the point basicially they dont have to answer truthfully and developers can rig the age ranking for the experience)

that’s it i hope roblox fixes those 2 issues

They already announced in their recent post addressing safety concerns that unrated games are going to only be playable by their developers.

Hello everyone just an update on this, I have spoken to Roblox staff regarding this issue. They said the 100 limit was a technical limitation preventing infinite games when implementing blocking. They said they are thinking on ways to solve this for the use cases for blocking more games such as keywords/genre. No official word on when change will happen but hopefully it comes soon.

Roblox please give updates on this soon, it’s been almost 7 months with no new updates to this. I think this is a pretty important feature for parental controls.

Upvote! I don’t want my younger siblings playing brutally violent Area-51-slash-SCP duplicates.

if its seriously impossible to store it because of database limits then i suggest roblox should allow parents to store blocked experience data on device instead without having to save it on roblox’s server side

the only problem it creates is that it won’t sync across devices though that could be fixed if the parent selects device of truth manually and that device of truth will be used to download latest blocked experience data
