Hey! With the brand new exciting release of Scoped UserIds coming soon to the platform, I think that there’s lots more room on the website for how we better express users on the platform.
Firstly I just want to shoutout the engineers working on the scoped ids feature, it’s an absolutely amazing idea and I personally think that it will greatly improve the current Roblox tracking situation.
But a big unrelated to that, I was recently on X (formerly Twitter) and realized that their URLs for profiles simply end in slash username
And it got me thinking
How Roblox can greatly improve user profile links
Currently if you wanted to go to the official Roblox account, you could type in: roblox.com/users/1/profile
But why!?
What if it could be roblox.com/profiles/roblox!
Why I think this is a good idea
I think that it would greatly improve discoverability on the platform and it would allow me, and many others to share our profiles to each other without specifically having to memorize random numbers that don’t mean much.
And for anyone who may say “but what if I still want to get the ID of a user”, let me ask you, why do you want the user id of a player? What’s the point? There’s really not much of a reason, games won’t be user id based for much longer, and you can’t even get user ids on mobile or console anyway.
What about past usernames?
Since when you change your name you still own the older name that you had, old usernames could still redirect to the latest possible username after the slash

This feature request makes zero sense at all. The problem you are presenting does not actually match with the solution you want. Removing UserIds from the website does not make profiles more “discoverable” or expressive. It only makes it harder for various categories of people you have clearly failed to consider (literally every Open Cloud API expects UserIds, so these are essential for programmers who work with the API!).
You could’ve just asked for some sort of vanity URL feature for profiles which would’ve been way more worthwhile (and heck, while we’re at it, why not include groups/communities in there too with their own vanity URLs?)

I disagree with completely removing UserIds from profile URLs. While the introduction of Scoped UserIds focuses on privacy, entirely masking Global UserIds from the web interface will create major development bottlenecks.
Many creators use the profile URL as the absolute easiest, zero-code way to grab a player’s exact Global UserId for debugging data corruption, checking logs, or managing external webhooks. While alternative methods exist (like calling the Users API via username), adding extra steps to basic identity validation just creates unnecessary friction for developers.
Masking it entirely out of the URL forces us to over-complicate systems that currently work perfectly.

this is a terrible idea but this will be out of the scope due to roblox would be likely to reject removing USerids from user profile urls

I hope this never happens. UserId is still very necessary and very useful to grab. The transition period itself has situations when you need the original id to get the scoped id.
Also players who play a game before scoped ids don’t switch to scoped ids for that particular game.

You can share your profile by giving someone your username. This is a useless change, & your question of “why I would want someone’s user ID” has a simple answer: To identify them. User IDs serve as the basic identifier for an account below usernames and going forward with this would benefit nobody.
