they actually did it! honestly wasn’t expecting them to
i think that’s the best solution to this situation people can complain about their nostalgia all they want, but there was no way roblox was adding more platform wide badges, so this bar on the profile section was pretty much useless.
i would like if different categories of badge occupied different places on the torso like a sort of sash (my avatar isn’t really the best for showing this lol) so we could use the highest tier of each one we own, but this is acceptable
They previously had plans to add at least 11 new badges (with icons already made).
And you think game/experience badges fit better on the profile? As things are now, that badge section is a complete mess with no purpose. Many users will have thousands of badges, and I promise you that nobody is badge searching through a cluttered section like that. Do you really think people would prefer that?
Game/experience badges should only be shown on the game/experience page that they actually relate to. You should be able to see your friends badges their, too, if they have that enabled in their privacy (which could even be per-badge). You should also be able to click a badge and see every user that currently owns it (that have that badge visibility enabled). Those game/experience badges should also have the ability to be favorited, maybe a max of 10, that would show up on your user profile.
Aside from that, Roblox Badges (or “System Badges” as they’re trying to rename it to, even though the URL to the badge page still says “Roblox Badges”), make much more sense to keep on the user profile, as they generally apply to the whole website, where as game/experience badges exclusively apply to their specific game/experience. Why clutter the user profile with non-profile related things (with the exception of favorited game/experience badges)? At least half of the Roblox Badges still work, the other half could be restored if they so desired, and, as I said, there were already plans to expand upon the existing badges.
Lastly, removing badges simply because they are “legacy” in some way is absolutely ridiculous. Even if all of the Roblox Badges were no longer obtainable, why would that matter? Does it only have value when it’s obtainable? Do you know what the point of badges even are to people? Legacy badges are even more valuable than non-legacy badges. I recommend looking at Steam for how badges should be handled and how users prefer it to be.
See my previous post, and related links in that post, for more information:
i kind of understand the want to keep roblox badges on the site. they’re old, they’re legacy, and they were a big part of your childhood and it hurts to see them gone. but again, they weren’t planning on expanding these, clearly those new badges never went through for one reason or another. there are only so many different kinds of badges roblox can give out for different metrics that aren’t cheesable like the bloxxer badges were. the “legacy” value of the badges is still kept through the pin items that you can wear if you want to flex your bloxxer badge or something, and you can still show them in the accessories section of your profile by featuring them there.
i do understand the need for a revamp of badges, right now. each badge has the same sort of value, especially since it doesn’t cost anything to make them, and i do agree that you should have the ability to pin the badges that you’re most proud of and have them turn into a more achievement like system.
also, can we please stop the hero worship of steam/gaben? they’re a good company, but this is starting to get ridiculous
My point is more that Roblox badges make sense to stay on the profile. They are essentially profile badges and not game/experience badges. They should’ve been added on to, even beyond what they had already made designs for. I see no reason for them to be removed, even for the ones that are no longer obtainable. They aren’t actually in the way and the space they take up is very minimal. If you’re looking at somebody’s profile, profile badges are the sort of thing that you’d actually be looking for.
I don’t think pins are a good replacement as pins are hidden in one’s inventory. Nobody is going to be wearing these pins either. Pins aren’t the point in these badges. It’s like if you went to a profile on the developer forum and the badges were just removed. There’s a reason that badges exist in the form that they do.
I’m not sure what you mean by this. I have made numerous posts explicitly citing where and how Steam does things objectively better than Roblox. Steam should be used as inspiration for Roblox’s design and it’s very unfortunate that they haven’t done so, or minimally at best.
I love that the accessory pins were added.
I hope that in the future, with this removal of badges that are no longer obtainable, it at least means new badges will be created/ added to profiles to celebrate users’ accomplishments beyond just experience badges. It would make the profile page look so much more lively. Right now, things just look too plain.
This does not make me feel any better. The pins do not make me feel like I achieved anything. Why not make it to were we can use the badges, like you guys get to keep your Admin Badges. How is it any different?!
Now we have no choice but to assume that any old account with a hidden inventory is a stolen account since there’s no way to tell if they have the Combat Initiation badge/pin accessory.
“you shouldn’t be parroting the investor nonsense like every Twitter kid if you understand the issue at a deeper level.”
really? for the love of god read the entire post before saying something untrue
