Serious question - should I purchase meshes online (providing royalty free licences) instead of using free listed meshes in the ROBLOX Library? I suppose that developers’ use of assets from the Library are at their own risk - we have no guarantee that the listed items are either original or illegal copies? I don’t wanna risk getting a DMCA strike just for using these free assets.
So here is my current educated guess of how it would work.
If a mesh got a strike, you the consumer would not be punished. However, the user who you got it from would. Therefore that asset if proven stolen, would most likely be removed from the site. If you have it published in your current game, I’m not sure how that affects you, but you could very easily either have it taken, or be requested to remove it.
I think it is always safer to do anything yourself, that can be done yourself, rather than leaving it to chance. However, an easy way around this would also be to look at WHO is making/providing the mesh on site. If they are a community respected, and well known mesh maker who appears to do it a lot, the chances of their meshes being stolen are probably pretty low, however if it is a more “random” user who doesn’t appear to develop a ton, there is chance they might have stolen it.
I don’t think there is a black and white answer to this, but that is my best response on the subject.
Sincerely,
Unresolved
Thank you
That’s what I thought, I am from now on purchasing all of my meshes from 3D model libraries with royalty free licences
