Gold statement, gold statement! I agree with every one thing you said. Haha, you added something’s I should have added too. The part where not much is given as a reward, it wouldn’t get much interest. Sure, this is an amazing update, but removing the events made it go downhill. Now ROBLOX events remain as a memory lost. Not only does this lose people’s interests to play most games and get promoted like events, many popular YouTubers basically lose the main reason why they do what they do. Some YouTubers record event videos and that ends there. I don’t feel it is fair, I really don’t feel it is fair. Me, as a developer, loves playing games for badges, catalog prizes and to see what many developers have made. Now the removal of events really makes me leave playing some games I probably never played before and just lock myself up and play games I just feel into instead of going to a variety which I don’t have any interest for.
I know a lot of the points in this post have already been discussed in this thread, but I have some thoughts about this that I can’t help but want to share here myself. I love Roblox and it’ll be incredibly tough for me to part from the platform, as i’m sure many others feel the same about, but seeing updates like this really just makes my heart sink.
Roblox has a motive of ‘Powering Imagination’, but it’s difficult for that to happen when it feels like everything that encourages that is being taken away from the playerbase. Tix were removed, disallowing free players to save up and buy hats and clothing. Those ‘free items’ that were talked about near that time never happened except for a small selection of free clothing and accessories which hasn’t been expanded upon since. UGC was something a lot of creators (myself definitely included) were really hyped for, but now it feels like that’s off the table too.
I admire nothing more than seeing the way other people express themselves creatively, and i’m sure other players would love to be able to do that without being forced to spend money. With the majority of Roblox’s playerbase undeniably being quite young, they don’t want to or simply can’t buy Robux. These events allowed people to deviate from being a cookie-cutter character while also bringing exposure to event games which benefited the developers. Moving away from this even more with the removal of event prizes does nothing but drive potential players away.
Personally, i’m perfectly happy with playing my small selection of favorite games on Roblox, so when I hear that these physical rewards will be replaced with in-game rewards i’m immediately more disinterested in playing. ‘I’ll likely never play this game again, what’s the point?’. Whereas wearable items can be used in a variety of games. I do realize on the flipside however, people besides me may be interested in playing new games for the in-game prizes but it just doesn’t have that same feeling to getting an actual avatar item.
Having developer driven events is a great idea! I adored EH18 for example, and i’m happy to see Roblox letting devs do what they do best, but what is the point in removing these scheduled events and prizes in the process? Why is Roblox unable to provide when they push out new catalog items on the daily? There are so many talented creators - modelers, designers, texturers, artists - that would be more than happy to create these items themselves! All Roblox would have to do is simply upload them to the catalog and allow them to be won in-game.
Correct me if i’m wrong - but is this not the standard way of maintaining a game on Roblox? Without updating your game with new content and features, players will eventually get bored and turn to something new. The ability to get featured is wonderful for developers no doubt, and will surely help, but I don’t see why in return events are being removed?
Reading through this thread, I see a lot more opinions against this than I do for it, which is greatly disheartening. I can only hope Roblox may take some of what has been said into consideration. Apologies in advance if i’m simply repeating what has already been said by others or misunderstanding any info in this thread, but I wanted to get my own opinion out there.
One problem was that they probably didn’t need to remove Tix. They needed money however there could be a different approach to this… first instead, they could just remove the possibility for people to cash out Tix for Robux. Then, limit Tix to purchase only certain items. This would then not cause such a problem. It would benefit everyone, really!
I wholeheartedly agree. While I do live the idea of featuring a different game everyday, I just don’t see it having the same impact as the monthly events. Like I said in a previous post, these new developer events don’t give a lot of incentive to players unless they already are interested with the game, which means these games won’t get as much new players as before. I just don’t see how removing monthly events helps the platform.
Honestly, why don’t we wait and see what the data says We wont know until actual stats start rolling in.
If anything this won’t help. Go back.
Yeah, I think that’s fair. It is a bit early for us to make assumptions on the effect this change will have.
This concept looks like it will be widely used because it makes sense. I support this strongly, and hope it will boost off, better then the monthly events. This is the best idea I have heard in a long time, and it will grow the fan-base, increase feedback’s for improvement, growth of the daily activeness of a player, and most likely boost game quality. My very special “Thank you”, to you Roblox.
If you do it well it seems like a good idea but this could fail very easily but I like it
Oh thanks! Now i know what is the update.
Big events like the gg hunt wouldn’t be removed. It’s the small ones like the Nike sponsees that’s up now, would be the ones getting removed. I think
There is one solution to this problem. It is if games have individually their own clothing system. This way the developers can decide to reward items to their players in events that were created by them. We are not yet there but as Roblox grows, there will be a significant shift on the platform; the games will become more and more independent. We have to remember that Roblox is a platform and not a game by itself.
I see this, at some point, as an Xbox profile where your avatar isn’t related to the games you play.
This is at least what I think Roblox is heading towards.
I’m not here to argue whether it is good or bad, I just wanted to bring this different perspective that might explain changes that Roblox are making.
This would also probably explain part of the reason why Roblox chose to add HumanoidDescriptions and avatar morph options, actually. Very interesting take!
so let me get this straight, this “live-ops” thing is for developer-made events. these will replace the sponsored events. the part im unsure about is are these events like the Beesmas event?
The post never mentioned the replacing of sponsored events.
Adding hundreds of clothing items to games, isn’t a bad thing. Especially if a game have it’s own clothing system. But I can see this becoming a standard expectation of games.
And this update is already putting more strain on small time developers, do the player’s really want to contribute to that as well? It’s much easier to just create clothing items and put it on the catalog, along side items already on the catalog than to be expected to have a catalog for each game. Some game’s and small time dev’s don’t have the luxury of hiring a full time clothing designer.
Roblox is moving away from Humanoids in the avatar aspect, as well as going for more realistic humanoids as per 2018 RDC. The Avatar Importer was one step towards that goal.
And as of right now, your avatar isn’t related to the games you play.
Games are already independent, the catalog is not. That is what developers are pushing for. This will not limit the platform or developers in anyway than it already does.
HumanoidDescription actually goes against the moving away from Humanoid or Bipedal avatars. But I believe it was just added to make equipping assets on an avatar easier. No significant reason behind it.
Roblox is indeed a platform, and games has been, and always will be independent. That’s the point of roblox. The fact that games doesn’t already include a full avatar customization system or clothing system is up to the game entirely. It’s not like it’s something we’re not allowed to do. Just look at the countless MMORPGs on Roblox that already allows this.
Just understand, using this customization or clothing systems limits your avatar. It’s far easier to develop for one rig type than two. It’s also easier to lock your avatar body mesh to a single one as well. Which is why when most games implement these sort of systems, the Roblox Avatar becomes irrelevant.
The “Live-Ops” are good, but for the growth of the community of creators
Are RPG’s allowed? - This seems super cool and I’d love to enter!
This can be a good idea, but I feel like removal of the events will cause a drop into the financial section and also we might have a decrease in active players.
However, I am looking forward for this Live-Ops feature!
Good luck ROBLOX!
What do most developers think about this update?
- Fully supports live-ops
- Doesn’t want live-ops
- Wants both live-ops and monthly events
