Roblox 2019 Events Update

Does anyone actually like this change? Most of what I am seeing tells me both the player and developer community disprove of this change.

There was previously a poll in this post. I accidentally edited the poll which caused it to reset. Here were the results. Sorry for the inconvenience:

Well, almost all people make a fair point, there may be some complaints too ridiculous, but we all have a reason to criticise, (most of the time).

Super sad to see that seasonal events are being removed. These were a HUGE staple of the ROBLOX community, and super fun.

However, I do think it is safe to say that Bloxys are safe for the time being as they get to showcase some of the Developers on the platform which would fit in with the vision of something like Dev-Ops.

I must say, some events may be…eh, not decent, but it still gave the Roblox players interest and something to do, and Egg Hunt, Bloxtober, Merry Bloxmas, etc, we’re THE events of roblox, those events that everyone gets hyped about.

Nobody is really sure about the Bloxy’s, hoping they stay.

Wait, create content for players to wear? That sounds like an interesting venture…but I’m concerned that NBC developers like myself will get clamped over this like with basic clothing. We can’t even upload them for personal use! (Aside from T-Shirts)

Trust me, I know. I’ve been around since late 2009. Wait, how is this related to what I said?

Hoo boy this is one stinker of an edit. I was semi-okay with monthly events going away, but seasonal events too? That’s going too far.

This decision shows a total lack of respect for Roblox’s general userbase. Manufacturing discontent among your audience to promote the idea that kids need to spend money to have an enjoyable experience is downright sinister.

Edit: I highly suggest you take a look at this to understand, to some extent, what Roblox’s F2P model will look like going forward.

No more holiday seasons.

So now there won’t be any more egg hunts? Seriously? People loved the official Roblox Egg hunts, while developers making their own ones can be fun, they are nothing compared to getting the actual eggs inside your inventory.

People love when Roblox does events, but now you’re removing events and replacing them with half baked events that no one will care about a week after they release. Please revert this change Roblox, no one wants it.

Okay, sounds nice.

And one sentence later, more potential for Roblox goes in the garbage bin.

The Live-Ops thing is a great idea, not gonna lie. But only 24 hours? That’s worthless.

You cant get lesser known devs seen by the community if you throw the featured games into the sunlight for a day and then throw them back into the shadow again. Players need time to explore and adjust to new games.

If this time limit was rasied to a week or a month then i’d support this part.

Okay, this getting ridiculous now. So, not only will monthly events be replaced by a cheap downgraded featured system. But now seasonal events like the decade long Egg Hunt tradition, will be thrown in the trash as well?

So after a decade of events…you suddenly cant supply anymore catalog prizes? Ever? Even with a net worth of a billion dollars?

That’s the best excuse you got? Just cut funding from some of these Rthro packages and you’ll have lots of cash left over. Nearly 300 of these things were made in just a few months so…it’s understandable why you’re overexhausting your budget for events.

This “update” falls under the downgrade category actually, by a lot. How is removing something that’s been on the site since 2008 growing? You guys arent even putting a single drop of effort into finding a proper replacement.

You know what’s worse?

The part that states seasonal events were getting removed on the public announcement that’s a week old was edited secretly yesterday. So almost no one would know that this HUGE change is going on.

They literality could’ve just made a new public announcement saying “Egg Hunt 2019 Is Officially The End”

But nope, they kept this HUGE news a secret from everyone for some reason.

Look, i’m not trying to spam negative feedback by making a dozen sentences saying how awful this update is. But everything they’re trying to do is wrong. If you’re gonna remove something so huge. Properly INFORM everyone about it instead of making a secret tiny edit later on a week later.

That way you wont have dozens of users saying negative things on this current blog post later on, i mean. This year’s Egg Hunt will have dozens of games participating.

What do you think is gonna happen when you people suddenly say: “This is the last ever Egg Hunt, enjoy.”

If you’re gonna remove the monthly events, fine. They were super easy and rushed anyway. But keep some events especially the seasonal ones AND put more elbow grease into it. The older community on Roblox will be more excited if there’s an actual event to prepare for that’s not rushed.

A few events a year with more quality and more prizes is better than mostly retextured hats every month. Having one event every 3-4 months with impressive quality is a step up than having over 20 rushed ones per year.

And you could also keep the live-ops thing, but make it monthly or weekly.

In final words, this “update” is either from laziness. Or they just don’t like events now. Or both.

They have the money, they have the DevForum Community, they have the staff. There’s literality no other excuse on why they’d get rid of ALL events forever.
ik

Just change your mind and keep seasonal events at least. Otherwise a lot of us will start losing interest in this platform.

Live-Ops and Events can have a future you know, wouldn’t hurt to at least try finding one.

I want to voice my opinion on this;
Live-Ops is not a bad idea at all! I love the fact that it would feel like a very good way to help developers push their content onto people like normal events based on their own games, but replacing all events including seasonal events is a very bad idea and it has even ruined my hopes of ever participating with creating a egg hunt ever, in fact; it was one of my main reasons why I pushed myself to become a Roblox developer in the first place! :worried:

I’m not going to comment more on this, but please understand that events are very close with the community and developers. Events gave spotlight to certain developers who worked on it and helped them get more popular and known and gave out fun to earn prizes for players who don’t spend money on Roblox, it even pushed some players to pay for the game to see what else they’d like to have on their avatar!

If you go along with this idea, you’re taking away whats dear to most players on your platform and ways developers could be noted in a way others could wish they could have in the community.
Live-Ops is just going to be normal events but without prizes everyone could enjoy but are now based on a specific game and would just feel like advertisements to the community, not even sponsorships.
The one big question I have about this though: why take away events when most of them gave out sponsorships which helped fund Roblox?

How can anyone like this update? It removes a beloved part of Roblox (Seasonal Events), and replaces it with what is basically just being featured for a day. So sad to see that Events are being canned in favor of this new “Feature” that nobody really cares about.

And the thing is, most players won’t care about it if there isn’t a real drive to do them if its the only events they can do now. Most of the community is used to having events they could look forward to and if both of these event based topics were together it would drive players to check out on Live-Ops more often.
Live-Ops would’ve been amazing along side normal events, but instead are forcing normal events away?

Agreed. I would prefer improving them instead of removing them though

Honestly, Roblox is just addicted to making Rthro packages nobody will wear (more than retextured hats). They could have made an entire post about canning seasonal events, but they discretely edited it on a relatively old post. Probably because they knew that everyone would hate this.

Looks like Egg Hunt 2019 will be the last event on Roblox.

Oh boy wow

Now this move right here can hurt Roblox really badly hear me out. Now I still support the idea of live ops im not changing my opion on that. But what really hurts me is I have been supporting the egg hunt and hallowseve for years now and you just silently edit this post without the developer community knowing is not ok. Second of all you don’t even make this a public announcement on this how is a new user going to know when these events get removed entirely? Third of all why in the world would you update this post one week later for the most little information regarding the removal of events completely ridiculous.

Anyways this is my last post on this thread regarding this.

I won’t have this replace events, yes, they get hate but they are better than featuring games for a day"

This seems like a bad idea not to eliminate the event no no no

Removal of officially driven events is a thing i really dislike. It removes largely the game-like aspect of the platform which differentiates it from other platforms. Roblox driven events have always been one of the best parts of the platform. With it being removed, there is no master control and developers are left all by themselves to make events. Also with no catalog prizes there is less incentive to check out games that have been sponsored by Roblox to make parts of an event.
