Roblox Community Missing Default "Admin" and "Owner" Ranks – Only One Rank Present

Issue Description:

The Roblox community Order of the Red Iris (ID: 2632331) is currently missing the default group role hierarchy. No one has previously reported this specific issue for this community. Upon inspection, it becomes clear that the only visible role is a custom one named Circle, while the expected default roles, such as Member, Admin, and Owner, are completely absent.

This issue prevents clarity in group structure and may interfere with expected administrative functions, permissions, and ownership visibility within the community.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Visit the community page: Order of the Red Iris
  2. Click on the Members tab.
  3. Observe that all users, including the group owner, only have the role Circle.
  4. Note that Admin and Owner roles are missing entirely.

Expected behavior

Every Roblox community group should follow a consistent default role hierarchy, which includes:

  • Owner – Assigned automatically to the creator of the group (in this case, Lilly_S)
  • Admin – A standard role for moderation or higher-level permissions
  • Member – The default role for regular users

In this community, Lilly_S should appear with the Owner role, while other users should default to Member or any assigned custom role like Circle. The complete absence of the base hierarchy is not expected behavior.

CC @TauCetian and @lm_gameon – Hopefully, this can be fixed!

The group you are reporting was made 10 years ago, and is owned by a former Roblox employee. This sounds pretty intentional for testing?

Also, you aren’t in the group either way, so I don’t really see the issue :man_shrugging:

Hi, I’m in this group. It was made like 10+ years ago and serves 0 purpose. It’s a legacy issue that no longer exists, much like spaces in usernames, etc. Why bring this up as a bug?

Hey there. I hope you’re doing well!

First of all, I would like to clarify that I made this report because the community caught my attention… When creating Roblox communities (previously called “groups”), we see that it creates standard roles with already set abilities. However, when I was exploring the platform, this one was something different that I wasn’t expecting to find whatsoever, completely following “another path”. Thus, when I noticed this Roblox community had only one role, I understood that something wasn’t right, making a bug report, which is this thread!

I tried searching for this community on the internet, through searches, and in the Roblox Wiki Fandom, but couldn’t find anything related. No explanations about what its original purposes were or when it was made. So, without having any public information, I seemingly thought it was an ongoing problem until the replies appeared, providing some clarity. I don’t know what the legacy issue was that took place years ago that no longer occurs nowadays, but still, from my perspective, this community should return to having the standard hierarchy back, or other users (not just me) may find it as a bug

Hopefully, this could explain the intentions of this report

It’s understandable why you’d make a bug report on it, but there really is no bug associated. It was a bug that existed over a decade ago and has since been patched. Trying to “fix” the group right now will most likely break it, or staff would need to manually assign roles, which really isn’t worth the manual work for a group with 8 members that has no games, no group funds, or an active group wall.

Much like how people don’t report usernames for having spaces (since it was a legacy feature that existed at the time), I think it’s best to not mark this as a bug. Why would staff fix said issues that don’t disrupt the platform, have history attached, and only a tiny fraction of players notice?

Thank you for reporting! We have many several improvements in recent years to the creation flow for communities to ensure new communities follow the role set structure we have defined. Unfortunately, previous communities that may have ran into issues are still around, and there is not a safe way to reconcile them as they may be in a broken state. When these community creation issues occur, owners are refunded, but in some cases such as the above, the community may still exist. We encourage community owners who run into this to report it to us so that we can help them and improve the flow. Thank you again for helping us improve the community experience!
