Roblox FPS dropping to 50-60 FPS suddenly from peak FPS

my client has been inexplicably having FPS spikes which i do not experience in any other video game. if i check the microprofiler, there are random instances where the CPU and GPU response time go from around 5-7 ms (normal, stable FPS) to anywhere from 30-50 ms.

although 50-60 FPS doesn’t sound that bad, when the spikes occur, there is such a big delay that my inputs are ignored entirely, which makes it hard to play. even stranger, there was a period of time where the issue went away on its own and i’m not sure what i did to resolve it. now it’s back again and i haven’t found any way to fix it.

i’ve changed my power options for my laptop from balanced to high performance and haven’t seen any change in the behavior. also, for some reason, my peak FPS is 135 FPS when i’m usually easily able to exceed 144 FPS in any other video game even at high quality settings. lowering my graphics quality in the roblox client settings does not allow for the peak FPS to exceed 135 FPS, and i still experience the FPS spikes.

my laptop is an alienware M16 R1 (not a great choice of device, i know) with the following specs:
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13700HX 2.10 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
