Roblox is using the microphone even when the VC microphone is off

Currently when you join an experience or subplace on the desktop app, at least for MacOs. Roblox automatically without consent enables the microphone to record or at least it is indicated that it is as seen in the attached photo, if you have the voice chat feature enabled in settings but have your microphone off as shown in with the red line through the microphone icon.

This occurs 100% of the time when launching or entering a new game or subplace, causing it to be very annoying for a user to deal with. With the only solution being to disable voice chat all together or to turn the microphone button on and off every time you enter an experience or subplace.

It can also mislead a user into believing that Roblox is trying to record without permission on purpose.

This is along with it interfering with game and system wide audio, when using earbuds, temporarily while switching when you attempt to disable the indicator through turning the microphone button off and on again or when you enter an experience.

Expected behavior

Roblox should not use the be using the microphone in the background or indicating that it is while the the microphone icon in app is showing it being disabled when joining or entering new subplaces.

Change the output device to headphones in the Roblox settings. It’s the escape menu, the same menu where you can change the graphics. It’s because you switched to the headset mode. Also happened to me and didn’t know what was happening. I accidentally changed the output device too.

I’m sorry I might be a little slow but could you clarify or explain this a bit more? Because I believe I know where the output device is and where to change it but I’m not sure what you exactly mean by headset mode. I attached some images, hopefully they can help you help me? (The top image is without any headphones and the bottom is with headphones)

Oh, your headphones don’t have a microphone.

Also, I never used Mac OS so idk how would I help you. Could be a Mac OS issue. Did you disable the microphone there? Like for example in Windows, there is an option to disable apps from accessing your mic. Idk about Mac

Technically I could, but I wouldn’t be able to use voice chat unless I restarted the entire app to change permissions every time I wanted to use it and at that point I might as well just disable voice chat all together, but I still like to use it from time to time. Kind of the reason why I’m hoping from a solution from Roblox instead through this report.

Edit: I would also like to add on that disabling and re-enabling the microphone permissions in settings does not fix this problem either unless you were to disable microphone permissions completely or just disable voice chat as stated before, which would defeat the purpose of the feature.

On a side note, I do have a different set of wireless earbuds instead with a microphone built in and I tried switching inputs and outputs but it still maintains the same outcome.

I’m hoping, I’ll get a response at least acknowledging the issue from a Roblox staff member, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks for trying to help though!

This issue appears to be have been fixed now, thanks to anyone who fixed this! Not sure when or how this as marked as fixed on the forum but after a fresh install of the app, the issue no longer occurs and works as expected. Marking as solved now.

Unfortunately, it seems to appear that Roblox has somehow unpatched this and the issue is reoccurring again. I’ve gone through a similar step of uninstalling and reinstalling after the problem occurred again and it hasn’t stopped since. So I’m removing this from being solved. I’m not sure if I need to remake this bug report as it’s been marked as being “fixed” but I’ll just leave this new reply for now.

This appears to have been fixed or patch in version 0.697.0.6970925 once again. I’ll update again if this issue reappears but for now it seems to have been patched and is working as expected.
