Wanted to make this post public so others could possibly receive a solution (once Roblox responds) if they ever have this happen to them.
I am currently working on a game with a friend. The game is currently separated into 2 experiences, the code is in one experience, and in the other experience is the no-code version that is currently only utilized by our builder/modeler. We do this for the current stage of the game’s development.
The reason I went into an explanation about our current development cycle is because I wanted to know how the game can be moderated without 3D or visuals assets (the game with the code is the only place that was moderated)? And yes, I know that code can construct things that may break Roblox’s terms, but that’s for the next part.
The code in no-way violates any of Roblox’s terms and it is clearly known by them as when I appeal, approximately a day or 2 later, they revoke the warning. However shortly after re-entering the moderated experience in studio, the warning is put up again and blocks my access to the experience. The only thing that I could see that may be triggering Roblox’s automatic moderation could be me making the use of Roblox TypeScript in my development workflow. However this is significantly known in the development community but it could be how the code may be compiled looking suspicious for the automatic moderation.
Please, Roblox review this information, and please do something to fix this. I can’t continue my development with these interruptions. As you can see, all of the responses in the appeal requests are the same, vague and uninformative information.
First warning (don’t mind the typo, was late when I appealed):
The fact of the matter is that anyone can seemingly be banned for anything right now and the only way to get a review is if you’re a large creator or know someone who can make some noise for you.
The AI moderation is terrible to a fault. Using AI to review appeals to moderation actions taken by the same AI is completely illogical. Roblox is becoming a hazard due to the moderation. You can invest thousands of dollars into a project and get banned because of someone you interacted with a decade ago or because your account was compromised over a decade ago and the person who did it was finally banned.
This is a massive issue that needs to be heard, but despite the countless number of posts on the subject we get nothing from the team.
Let’s be honest, AI is the way of the future; especially for tasks like moderation. The issue with their moderation is that they don’t really have any elevation policies in-place. If an appeal is received, it should require more human intervention. Obviously we don’t know what happens behind the scenes, but I assume something like a staff member receives the appeal and they either accept or deny it. But they don’t provide a reason or work to investigate what triggered the automation in the first place.
I’m not saying the issue is AI in general, I use AI every day for one thing or another. I’m saying that the AI moderation system on Roblox needs heavy tweaking.
Most of my appeals are denied within 2 minutes. That’s not enough time for a real person to do a review. Which is something you mentioned too. That’s my issue.
AI moderation on a platform of this size is necessary, but there should be more accountability and more transparency from the team.
Hey there, post has been inactive for a day or so, just wanted to let you guys know I got unmoderated and tested the game, redid the questionnaire and 5 minutes later, game was moderated again. Please help me bump this post so Roblox can intervene and possibly help others.
You have a reason for deleting the “missing Roblox system”. Which means, in fact, there is no real reason, it’s just that the AI decided that your game was not trustworthy, no one knows why it decided that way, not even the Roblox employees themselves. If you ask what it means, none of them will ever answer.
AI is the future for basic support stuff, but Roblox should at least offer faster human support for creators that have generated 100K+ Robux on the platform.
That’s honestly the bare minimum for a platform that depends so much on creators, especially considering how high the fees already are. Steam has pretty fast support with actual humans, so it’s clearly possible.
This would genuinely be one of the best updates Roblox could make. Even better would be having a built-in chat where creators could directly talk to a human. But just having the guarantee that a real person will actually review your case, give a proper answer, and ideally solve it in less than a day would already be a huge improvement.
I do think it could be harder to implement for stuff like moderated assets specially though. Maybe at this case, faster support could be limited to verified creators, or creators that have generated a decent amount of Robux on the platform.
Have you ever wondered why Roblox does not allow you to check resources before uploading to the platform, and not after, when it’s too late and you will be punished.
My game is also suffering the exact same issue. As soon as you save/publish to the place, after a minute or two, the game gets moderated. I have been working on it for almost 3 years now
I don’t count on this platform much, but hopefully they find a solution to this. The support is literally ignoring my request and telling me “they can’t provide me further information”.
So sorry to hear this is happening to you as well. Hopefully we can get some attention for this issue if we continue this post and spread our concerns.
Development is nearly impossible with this repeated loop of moderation actions (I’m lucky we use Git and store our code in a remote repository, doesn’t do much though if we can’t continue testing ).
Sometimes the fault isn’t (directly) yours or the AI’s, but rather UV, yes, texture UV.
I’ve already received a moderation and deletion warning because of UV. Basically, assets have textures, and although we see the texture applied to the object, the automatic moderation analyzes the entire image, and if by chance your texture resembles an intimate part (like breasts), you may be moderated, even if that design in the texture won’t be used in that way.
My recommendation is that you analyze the UV of your meshes to find out if any asset has anything that resembles an intimate part. (A simple semicircle with details in the center can end up being categorized as such if it’s centered).
The fault isn’t ENTIRELY the AI’s; it’s more of a preventative measure because some developers try in every way to circumvent and pass assets with sexual content.
Just to add, the moderation AI is much better than before; today it analyzes your mesh much better to identify if it’s a tight-fitting piece of clothing or if the character is naked, so I suggest you take a look at that.
Looks like Roblox either finally reviewed the issue on their end or someone else reported an issue and it came to their attention. The most recent appeal was accepted (the 5th one) and we haven’t been moderated since.
Thank you for all your support, feel free to continue this thread if you are having a similar issue.
