Roblox Premium Purchase Forces External Browser Instead of Google Play Billing (Android)

When attempting to purchase Roblox Premium in the Android Roblox app, the app immediately redirects to an external web browser checkout page instead of showing the normal Google Play purchase prompt. This browser checkout only allows card, PayPal, or gift card payments and does not allow using Google Play balance.

This behavior is different from how the app previously functioned. In the past, purchasing Premium opened the standard Google Play billing popup, the same way Robux purchases still do today.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Open Roblox on Android.
  • Navigate to Roblox Premium purchase.
  • Tap “Subscribe” or “Buy.”
  • App instantly opens an external browser (i.e chrome, fire fox, safari) checkout instead of Google Play billing.

Comparison Test:

Purchasing Robux in the same app and on the same device correctly opens the Google Play purchase popup with Google Play balance available.

Expected behavior

Roblox Premium purchases should open the standard Google Play purchase prompt inside the app, consistent with Robux purchases and prior behavior.

Actual Behavior

The app forces an external browser checkout and blocks Google Play balance usage.

Impact

Users with Google Play credit cannot use their funds.

  • Inconsistent purchase experience within the same app.
  • Confusing change from previous behavior.
  • Appears forced rather than a technical error.
  • Frequency: 100% of attempts
  • Platform: Android app (not sure if it does for apple as well)
