Nearly 5 years ago in 7th grade, I began working on my first videogame project on Roblox: average plate gaem. Though accumulating over 20M Robux, the opportunity and experience I got from developing the game was priceless.
4 months ago now, however, it was hacked, and I’ve yet to receive a productive response from the several support tickets I opened over these last 4 months.
What happened?
On September 15, @ approximately 12:00 PM PST, my game “average plate gaem” (https://www.roblox.com/games/6405807112) had its ownership transferred from my account without my consent to the group “SharkSims” (SharkSims - Roblox) when I got hacked.
An impersonation scam led me to a fraudulent Roblox log-in page which was used to steal my security token, bypassing all 2FA security and my password. During the period in which the hackers had access to my account, they transferred the game to their holding group. They also maliciously added NSFW content to the game in order to get it deleted.
Thousands of dollars worth of gamepasses and developer products that were purchased in-game by hundreds of users were on the line.
I immediately began creating support tickets. It took one month to restore my account. At the time of writing this, however, Roblox has STILL refused to restore average plate gaem.
The Consequences
During the amount of time that has passed, I have lost an upwards of $4,000 - $8,000 is DevEx income. Additionally, Roblox has also failed to restore an equivalent of $1,000 Robux that was stolen from my account.
What now?
It’s incredibly frustrating that Roblox refuses to offer developers seamless support during incidents like this. What began as a hobby became a means of supporting myself and my family. After my game was stolen, I lost all of that.
The past few months of “we are still investigating and will respond at the earliest” has been incredibly disheartening both to me and eager fans of the game as 5 years of progress is essentially at their mercy, as well as their progress and money spent on the game.
