Well, Roblox is introducing some pretty wild stuff with the new claims system, and it looks like these changes are going live soon with the updated Terms of Use. And I believe the issues reported in this bug report are highly related to this situation, since Roblox is using that system to send out these copyright notices after all.
Also, there are other big changes in the Terms of Use — for example, you can no longer use “Roblox” or “Blox” in your usernames, group names, or display names. They really tightened the rules around that.
For instance, they state:
“If a rights holder believes that their intellectual property is being used in your Experience, they can choose to either claim the content in your Experience or request your Experience’s removal. When a rights holder claims content in your Experience, the rights holder is allowing your Experience to remain on the Platform in exchange for certain benefits.”
“First, the rights holder will receive a share of any Robux earnings attributable to your Experience This includes the share of Robux earned through Virtual Content, ads, and Engagement-Based Payouts. Second, the rights holder may monitor your Experience, in which case the rights holder may receive aggregated engagement data about your Experience Third, the rights holder may require you to take reasonable steps to comply with additional content standards. If a rights holder claims content in your Experience, you will have a limited time period to dispute or appeal the claim if you believe your Experience was identified in error or if you have removed the claimed content.”
So honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re also changing their policies around ripoffs.
This whole “claims” feature seems like it’s about to go public soon. Given how extensive and specific the claims-related changes are in the Terms of Use, I think it’s fair to assume they might already be testing this feature with a group of creators — and honestly, I feel justified in thinking that this entire scenario is connected to that.
They just posted this Terms of Use update today, so that many coincidences seem a bit too much.
