Roblox should sell verification checkmarks for $380/year

Yes. You heard the title right, I believe that Roblox should begin selling their own verification checkmarks instead of the current systems.

What is a checkmark?

Let me go ahead and start off by explaining, what is a checkmark? Well with the system that’s currently in place, there’s a set of requirements:

These requirements have constantly changed throughout the past couple of years, but most specifically the Experience Developers option has been abused heavily ever since its inception. Checkmarks have been easily obtainable, while also being incredibly difficult, which has created a massive “clout gap” of people flexing on each other, but people also USD buying.

Abuse on Roblox’s Systems

USD buying & checkmark abuse has happened ever since the system first came out. This has varied from users giving others a % share of their game temporarily, studio access temporarily, and more. I won’t give you an exact tutorial on how this was completed, but it has definitely been possible on the platform.

As you can tell, this system doesn’t work, because sometimes a game that’s eligible can be making $100K+ per year, while others can only be making <$5K/year and yet both are eligible for 10 users per month.

Why am I credible to speak on this topic?

Hi, my name is Kinder. I have a checkmark, and I’ve had one for many years now. In this post I will be outlining my position on the current checkmark abuse & my solution to the issue on this platform.

My solution

This is going to be incredibly controversial, and I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of people clowning on me. But I think that’s completely fair, and that it makes sense, people feel like checkmarks should be achievements not just a symbol. But truthfully, in my personal opinion I believe that checkmarks are nothing more than a symbol.

We’ve seen the same checkmark abuse across many platforms, most notably Twitter (now, X), along with many others such as Instagram, Facebook, and more.

At first all of these platforms I first mentioned had previously had a very similar checkmark obtainment process to Roblox, but they also suffered the exact same abuse of systems. I believe that the solution to Roblox’s issue is to follow in the footsteps of these other major platforms.

These issues have only led me to one logical solution. Roblox should sell checkmarks themselves.

Selling checkmarks.

Now hear me out, it’s a crazy idea. But I believe that the verification system could work very similarly to the X platform.

Checkmarks could be purchased for $380 per year (or 100,000 Robux), and then they’d show up on your account the exact same way they work now.

That’s it. That’s my solution. No more clout. Anyone can have checkmarks, and the price of the checkmark will be used to actually ensure that the user is who they say that they are.

This is not X, checkmarks are supposed to prove authenticity for actually notable users not just a vanity for sale

They recently stated cracking down on the abuse too, effectively so so it should be better soon

No. I ain’t paying for that.

It’s already a pain in the ass to have why would I pay for players to crowd me, target me and harass me for having a mark?

Please no… what are we meant to prove by paying $380 a year for an emoji next to our name…

Prove the need for attention, that’s it

So you’re just asking for a more expensive premium subscription which undermines what being verified means?

Don’t buy it then, the whole point right now is that it’s a clout symbol.

Regardless it’s simply a bad business decision.

To make users pay for what they already had for free is a very effective way to piss people off, a company should only do this if they want to lose customers, reputation and trust.

This ain’t twitter kid, if you want clout try Tiktok

the KinderDev downfall needs to be studied

Currently checkmarks are (perhaps unintentionally) designed to be some sort of achievement, a recognition that you’ve (helped to) hit certain milestones, just like YouTube’s badge when you hit 100k subscribers.

Just like with YouTube, there will always be people who are so obsessed with a false sense of validation that they buy botted channels or whatever, but generally it’s an achievement badge.

Currently it’s indeed a bit random who’s verified and who isn’t, but the solution for this isn’t to just make the whole badge meaningless by selling it (like Twitter did to cover financial gaps)

Instead, recheck eligibility every year. Revoke the badge from developers who are no longer notable. And like you said, the slots of verified contributors is not scaled with the size of the game.

To make it more about authenticity, you can also show the badge less prominently. Eg only on the expansion card in leaderboard instead of the list, only on the profile instead of the game page, etc.

no (slowed + reverb + nightcore)

This can’t be real lol, im also verified on @atlathix but devs should earn their badge authentically and legitimate, people can easily impersonate if it was 380 dollars a year. Holy ragebait. It’s a badge. Meaning people are supposed to earn it. Legit everyone will be verified due to this..

average middle school attention seeker

this is literally going to piss every dev off that got their checkmark off of heavy contributions to a game or a owner of a big game. this is also going to piss off the ugc creators and lead to more drama within Roblox.

overall, this is NOT (all capitals btw) a good idea.
