Whenever I open any button in Roblox Studio that triggers a file selection dialog (e.g., importing an image, opening a local place file, selecting a script from disk), Roblox Studio freezes and crashes about 3 seconds after the dialog appears.
The crash happens regardless of the project I am working on and occurs even in a brand new place.
Steps to reproduce
Launch Roblox Studio (any version).
Create or open a new place.
Trigger any action that opens the Windows file picker, for example:
File → Open from File…
Asset Manager → Bulk Import…
Insert Image or Mesh from disk.
Wait ~3 seconds after the dialog appears.
Studio freezes and closes.

I do not have any plugins installed, the file dialog seems to be working on different applications.
I restarted my pc, reinstalled Roblox Studio.
my beta features are : Dragger QoL Improvements, Haptic Effects, Input Action System, Scripts are non-string by default, UI Styling and UIDragDetectors
I don’t recall seeing an issue like this on Windows, but I have seen this before on Mac where disk permission wasn’t granted to Studio (depends on admin settings whether this is defaulted on). If the machine has specific policies, its possible its denying access to Studio when it goes to the file dialogs - the clue here is that its any file picker operation. A couple questions:
If you run as admin, does it persist
If you open a local file from the studio start page (skipping the file picker) does it allow that or crash?
Hello! This is currently happening to me on Windows as well. It’s never done this before until right now. Clicking the open auto recovery file on start and running as admin yields the same results for me, and uninstalling/reinstalling is unsuccessful as well.
I just began having this issue a few hours ago. Restarting, running as admin, reinstalling studio, deleting roblox folder in %appdata% local, deleting all roblox temp files, have not worked. Opening recent experiences seems to work, and I can save a place to Roblox. Windows 11
Started happening to me this morning all of a sudden, have tried everything to make it work, unistalliun roblox, installin a earlier version of studio, restarting, shuitting down, deleteing cahce, etc. and no matter what any kind of importing i try to do studio crashes. I have all beta features turned off as well so i have no idea what a good work around is but looking at all these comments it has to be a bug from the most recent update. please fix!
yes when i run studi as admin it persists and when i open a local file from studi start page its still crashes. I have Windows btw. Ive also shut off my onedrive and anything microsoft related and it still persists
If someone can send over logs for the new version of this (reproduce the issue, then send a log) that will be helpful in tracking this down. I’m wondering folks here have something in common - utility, etc. causing the issue, this doesn’t seem to be related to something we’ve pushed based on timing.
So we’re still looking for “why” this is happening but the crash is related to a “GROOVEEX.DLL” file that may exist on some PCs that have Office and OneDrive extensions installed. Its very similar to an issue described here with Adobe, though this is an older problem. We are trying to understand why this just started up recently.
Also if anyone can indicate if they have made changes to their PC recently - installed some new software, updated OS, driver update, updated MS Office, etc we can see if there’s some commonalities between people here seeing this.
