Since this morning (about 12 hours ago as of writing this) Roblox Studio has for some reason been locking itself to 10-20 FPS about 10 seconds after it boots up. It runs fine at about 60 FPS for a few seconds, and then begins regrading until it hits an absurdly low value, from my experience it has been inconsistent, 12, 15, or 20 so far. Playtesting in studio often results in better FPS, but still has the same issue where its frequently capped at a value below 30 and will never exceed it.
I have tried changing which GPU studio uses, re-installing studio, using studio on a new user profile, updating windows (this corrupted my task bar btw which forced me to use a new user profile, in-case this is relevant), changed various studio settings involving rendering, like graphics mode mainly, disabling all plugins and restarting studio, changing my graphics level to 01, different places, different Roblox accounts, NOTHING has worked.
The FPS is specifically capped, by the way, it will NOT exceed a certain value and very consistently remains at said value, only fluctuating when I am tabbing out, which makes me very confident it is not in relation to an unoptimized game or something generally very intensive on Roblox Studio.
My current suspicion is that it is a Windows 11 update or a Roblox Studio update, however I am unable to rollback the Windows 11 update if it is the issue. I have also troubleshooted the issue with MicroProfiler but I have still not gotten anything out of it.
I’ve looked up the problem on DevForum and Reddit and as many other sources that I could think of and my issue doesn’t seem to line up, I’ve tried everything every post I’ve found has said to do. The only thing I can’t do is fiddle with the NVIDIA Control Panel Display settings because for some reason the Display option just refuses to show up aswell.
i’m having the exact same issue, i have tried pretty much every “solution” that was given on those posts (even the ones involving NVIDIA Control Panel):
Disabling Integrated Graphics Card
Turning off “Optimizations for windowed games” in Windows Graphics settings
Turning off “V-Sync” in NVIDIA Control Panel for ROBLOX Studio
Turning off “Max Frame Rate” in NVIDIA Control Panel for ROBLOX Studio
Updating NVIDIA Graphics Driver (happened both before AND after, and worked fine for at least a week on previous driver)
Updating Windows 11 (same as above; happened both before AND after and worked prior to updating)
Happens regardless of the place (happens on an EMPTY BASEPLATE)
Happens with every other application on my PC closed, including recording and clipping applications (no background recording like Shadowplay/Medal is active, either)
ROBLOX Studio is on my main SSD
i am very confident it must be a studio issue because it only happened after updating ROBLOX Studio with no other major changes within my PC or other applications
also worth noting, when i playtest the FPS is okay and not laggy, it’s just code editing and general viewport (widgets and other studio things are still incredibly laggy)
I remember hearing this would work but the G-Sync setting is in the Display tab on NVIDIA Control Panel, which for some reason is entirely missing from my NVIDIA Control Panel. I’ve tried multiple solutions to get it to appear from changing resolution to updating drivers and it hasn’t appeared.
Ok, I did some more digging around and I found a solution that worked for me atleast, I had to open AMD Software and disable the variable frames setting. It seems to be working for now and I’m not sure why this even worked as Studio uses my NVIDIA graphics card, not my AMD one. But regardless it seems to be clearing up.
Update: The issues returned after about an hour. I’m trying to get the display option to show up in NVIDIA Control Panel to turn off G-Sync, if this doesn’t work I’m out of ideas.
I already added a solution to this thread with G-Sync being the issue but for the whole day I’ve still been unable to make the Display tab open up in NVIDIA Control Panel and I’m basically getting the idea that my laptop is just incapable of switching over to my RTX card and forcing itself to use the AMD card. I genuinely think I just have to wait for this to fix itself, I’ve spent most of my day today and yesterday incessently trying to troubleshoot this issue and every time it’s seemed to be fixed it ended up snapping back to being locked at 10-20 FPS a few minutes to hours later.
New update; but I think I finally fixed it. The solution was exceedingly dumb. My fan was set to silent mode and that crashed my FPS. I set my fan to performance and now it works swimmingly lol.
Turning off G-Sync may be an option for other people who have this issue though, in my case however it was simply incorrect fan settings.
you can check roblox studio’s rendering settings and change the renderer for extra performance boost (incl in roblox games).
There’s VulkanGL, and some other renderers.
