ROBLOX Studio is honestly a nightmare to use once your game gets even slightly big. It looks nice on the outside, but everything underneath is slow, broken, and constantly lagging. Doesn’t matter if you’ve got a decent PC — it still freezes, crashes, or randomly resets stuff like it’s stuck in 2012. Team Create is somehow even worse, especially when you’re trying to work with other people. Here’s a full list of things that constantly go wrong while trying to actually make something.
Grouping and Ungrouping Parts Lags Everything
You’d think selecting parts and clicking “Group” would be instant, right? Nope. It freezes for a few seconds like it’s solving a math equation. And the more parts you select, the worse it gets. Ungrouping does the exact same thing. Half the time, I’m scared to organize my stuff because Studio acts like it’s about to crash just from that.
Importing Meshes is a Gamble
Every time I import a mesh, I just hope Studio doesn’t freeze. Sometimes it lags a bit, sometimes it just full-on crashes. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small object or a giant one — Studio treats it like you dropped a nuke. If you import more than one at a time, good luck. It’s honestly embarrassing how bad it handles something that literally every game uses.
Deleting Big Scripts and Undoing is a Death Sentence
Deleting a big script is fine, but the second you hit Ctrl+Z? It’s over. The whole program lags, sometimes for like 10+ seconds, or it just dies and closes. And even if it does come back, half the time the script is all weird or missing stuff. Undo is supposed to save you, not make you start over. I legit avoid using it unless I really have to.
Team Create is a Laggy Mess
Team Create sounds cool until you actually try to use it. Scripts don’t save right, drafts bug out, and when other people move stuff, it’s delayed or doesn’t show up at all. Moving parts in a shared session is laggy as hell. And sometimes your own changes don’t even stay — they just vanish or get overwritten. It makes working with friends way harder than it should be.
Small Games Lag — Seriously?
I’m not even talking about massive games — I’m working on small stuff and it still lags. Just opening the place file can cause stuttering. Moving the camera or placing a part drops the FPS for no reason. If that’s what it’s like for me, I can’t imagine how people making huge games deal with it. How is this acceptable on a platform used by millions?
Opening Big Games = Crash City
Big games straight up don’t open half the time. Studio freezes, sits there for a minute, then either crashes or just stays unresponsive. And when it does open, it takes forever to load and runs like garbage. You’re basically punished for making anything ambitious. It’s wild that this hasn’t been fixed.
Studio Randomly Resets My Layout
One day, everything’s normal. The next, Explorer is gone, Output is at the top, and all my tabs are out of place. Studio just randomly resets the UI and pretends like nothing happened. It’s super annoying to fix every single time. Why can’t it just remember my layout like literally every other program?
UI Updates Constantly, Nothing Else Does
Every week there’s some new tiny change to the UI — new icons, new buttons, new sidebar animation — but the actual problems never get touched. It’s like they care more about how it looks than how it works. Nobody asked for another visual tweak. We just want it to stop lagging and crashing all the time.
Most Features Are Broken or Laggy
Terrain tools are janky, the script editor randomly lags, and even resizing or rotating stuff feels clunky sometimes. So many features are either outdated or half-working. It’s like Studio gets new paint on the outside, but the inside is falling apart. Why are we still dealing with this in 2025?
ROBLOX Studio could be great if they actually focused on fixing what’s broken instead of giving the UI a facelift every five minutes. People are trying to build serious games on this thing, and it just doesn’t hold up. It’s laggy, unstable, and honestly kind of exhausting to deal with. At this point, the best update would be one that doesn’t add anything new — just finally fixes the mess that’s already there.
Have you reported all of these bugs? I haven’t really noticed most of the issues you have described. You should make sure to include a Microprofiler dump to help the engineers investigate the issue for each Bug Report.
That’s part of the Next-Gen Studio rework, to move away from the Qt UI engine to a more flexible system (and also making it more customizable with Custom Tabs) so that these problems can be addressed - this was actually one of the main selling points of the Next-Gen Explorer, that it was faster after being re-written.
Many of the old tools and built-in plugins are being completely refactored and rewritten, including the Terrain Editor.
I haven’t noticed any of these except the UI resetting itself (very annoying). But maybe we are asking too much from roblox studio. I do understand the undo and mesh importing complaints but grouping a large amount of parts does seem reasonable.
If you don’t mind, what OS are you running and with what specs?
The Next-Gen Explorer has more options such as finding items through its value and properties, which I LOVE, but it is still often laggy when undoing deletions of big scripts and models by mistake, or when grouping and ungrouping items. My friends also experience even worse issues on only slightly larger games which I have invited them to join here and post these complaints too, because I feel that ROBLOX don’t actually know about it due to the lack of people complaining. People need to actually post about this themselves because I know that there are MANY more people experiencing similar, if not worse issues, with the studio.
Hopefully ROBLOX pay attention to this eventually and realise that they need to fix it because it is significantly degrading the performance of many games, and preventing big studios from being able to work on games faster (example: BIG Games, they have also complained about this).
I can understand why with the meshes, but in the past I have been able to import larger meshes faster than now when importing small meshes like trees and chairs with minimal design.
It isn’t much to ask studio to work on improving the internal code rather than the UI, they seem to have the time to add cool features like custom tabs, and improving the explorer, but they seem to avoid making the most common features faster, such as grouping and ungrouping parts, UI resetting itself, the app deciding to crash because you tried to use 2MB at once. I have had ROBLOX studio taking up 12GB of RAM before, and at that time it wasn’t even doing anything, I cannot imagine the stress and frustration these bigger studios go through when working on team projects for large scale games like Bloxfruits, Pet Simulator 99, Bee Swarm, and other games that are large scale. It shouldn’t be like this. An app that struggles to undo an ungrouping taking up 12GB of RAM doesn’t feel right. It almost feels like it explains why games are becoming so simple now, because its hard to maintain a large-scaled game with studio.
