Roblox Studio Used To Work Offline?

I have grown up using Studio to make personal projects. Back then, I could run it without internet, albeit without access to the toolbox and other features. In it’s current state, it requires a constant internet connection. Despite my files being stored locally, I am unable to open them that way anymore, and due to many recent events, I am concerned about the companies future, and the preservation of my files. Is there any way for me to open and edit local files without internet access? I use studio as a place to build drawing references and create ideas, so I would like to ensure my work is preserved, even in the event of a large change or even total shutdown. Losing access would cripple my creative process significantly.

Even just enabling me to simply view my creations would be more than helpful, but as it stands, the application doesn’t even open without internet anymore.

You can preserve your files much better on Roblox itself now.
There is a Script version (just like GitHub) that saves all your scripts, and you can switch to an earlier version at any time.. if you mess up somewehere.

All your builds, animations, UI’s (etc).. are also saved the same way.
You can go back at any time.

But I know what you mean.. there are times you want to operate offline.
However that desire has now faded for me.. as Roblox provides all the tools I need.

You can possibly look out for TESSERA - a clone made in the image of Studio (for the continuation & similarity)… with the options to upload to many Platforms.. not just Roblox (exe files too).

I would need to confirm that it can work offline though.
Maybe uzii_dev could answer that

Here’s more on it:

I appreciate the input, and I will keep Tessera in mind for my future projects. Looking into it, it seems like something that was meant to be made, and I am eager to see it moving forward. I will likely switch to that platform upon it’s release.

Unfortunately, my primary concern is with my old files. There are hundreds of hours of work in these places, especially from a modeling perspective, and losing the ability to view these creations due to a shutdown or even simple internet loss is quite concerning for me. I could settle for losing editing access, and even having some assets fail to load, I just want a way to maintain visibility of the project, for the sake of drawing reference. Is that truly impossible now? I feel strange knowing my access to my creations is tied to the success of a company that hasn’t been doing so well recently, and while I know roblox wont actually shut down, the lack of a safety net (in the form of a locally accessible studio file) is concerning.

Yeah.. the Dev is actively working on Tessera … for several years in fact.
We recently went in Alpha phase - and there’s about 20+ of us testing it. debugging etc.
But you can see in some video’s what all it can do already.

As for moving your projects or assets across - shouldn’t be too hard.
But you can still download all your PLACE Files in the meantime.
When Tessera is released.. (and open sourced) .. you will be able to import them.

I just don’t know if you can do it in one go (Experience & it’s places). Should be fine either way.

Also.. if you can work offline.. no idea.. but it will have a lot LESS restrictions than what Roblox offers right now… as I said.. it allows you to upload to other platforms like Steam etc.

But there’s still some time to go - so save your files so long. Tessera will open/import them

That sounds really good. I will definitely keep it in mind as I move forward!
