Roview – Visual code diffs & safe review for AI in Roblox Studio [Open Source]

Hey everyone,

I have been experimenting with some of the AI tools like claude or codex as well as custom MCP setups alongside Roblox Studio and to be honest have been pretty surprised at it being okay sometimes. However I always ran into a problem when the agent entered what I call the dumb
zone and it would be constantly overriding itself, creating and deleting scripts etc and it became pretty hard to track all of the changes.

I decided to build this tool, which I am calling Roview to help manage this. It is open-source and is a visual review layer between your AI assistant and Roblox Studio. Think of a git PR diff that shows you changes that the agent is making in a easy and readable format.

I know not everyone uses or particularly likes AI but if its something you have incorporated into your workflow then I think this tool can be useful.

:movie_camera: How It Looks

Web view:

You can comment on specific lines/select multi lines and give a full PR esq feedback loop that goes straight back to the agent

Roblox Studio Plugin:

:light_bulb: What does it actually do?

Instead of letting an agent write directly to your place files in real time:

  1. Visual Diff Review: When your AI generates or edits code, Roview will opens a Luau diff in your browser or within the studio plugin widget.
  2. Click-to-Comment Feedback: If the AI wrote something wrong or missed a debounce, you can click on that exact line in the diff, type a note (e.g. “make this debounce 0.5s and use task.wait”), and send that feedback straight back to the agent to fix.
  3. Atomic Single-Undo Apply: Once you approve the changes, the Studio plugin applies the whole proposal inside a single ChangeHistoryService recording. If you don’t like the result in Studio, one single Ctrl+Z reverts everything cleanly.
  4. Safety Checks: It checks SHA-256 hashes of scripts to make sure you didn’t edit a script manually while the AI was generating, and blocks dumb mistakes like an agent trying to delete Workspace or ReplicatedStorage.
  5. 100% Local: Runs on 127.0.0.1 on your machine with a local token. Zero telemetry, no external servers, no cloud accounts needed.

:hammer_and_wrench: If you want to try it yourself

The draft function built into Roblox is sufficient for my needs.

this is quite unnecessary since you already can review the code differences and accept/reject changes in roblox studio ai

This tool is very clearly an MCP server intended for use with third party AI performing work on code in your game. It is definitely quite necessary as the built-in MCP server studio has does not actually expose that diffing functionality to third party AI.

Antigravity has already a built-in diffing window and Im pretty sure other agentic apps already has the concept if you’re working outside the studio. So basically this is redundant other than if youre working outside the studio.

Fair, I know this tool isn’t for everyone but from my experience with drafts is that it only handles script text unless it has been updated for instance operations too? Also this tool was built to be used alongside 3rd party AI agents as if you were reviewing their code and give feedback to their context loop. Also this adds a layer of safety as it stops AI models making potential breaking changes directly into the game which they can sometimes do

I feel redundant is maybe a bit harsh as I think people could find use in it with the visuals and github PR style feedback but each to their own. This tool gives a bit more than the standard diff feature that most agents IDE/apps provide only the accept and reject buttons. This also goes a bit further and understands the in game instances and data models better than the external tools can

Oh wow, this looks pretty neat tbh. Tho do you think roview could use git for the backend? Git is great for source control and widely used. I think that option could be really useful. Best case scenario is you use a IDE like VSCode and store the source files on your system and do source control with git. This would be a middle ground I see.

"Yeah this is something that I had considered and would definitely like to explore in the future when I find some time to build it out properly! I originally made this as a live review while actively building with AI where as git is more for tracking and saving your project history over time . I think an option to export or hook into Git commits could be a good first step maybe. If you have ideas or want to try implement for sure open up some PRs in the repo  "

No, what!? That’s a terrible idea buddy, I’d jst use a third party ai

I don’t think you understand that this is something used by a third party AI to actually perform only edits that you have approved of to the code that third party AI wants to make alterations to. It’s not itself an AI model.
