I’m a verified 18+ developer on Roblox, and I’ve been permanently locked out of my account due to the newly introduced screen time limit feature. After mistakenly setting a 15-minute daily limit as a test, I was immediately locked out with a modal stating:
“Screen time limit reached. You’ve reached your daily screen time limit. Come back tomorrow to access Roblox again.”
I cannot log out, switch accounts, or even access site settings. This is not just an inconvenience — it’s a complete account softlock that has crippled my ability to access Roblox Studio, Creator Dashboard and any development or moderation tools. This has decimated my daily workflow as a developer and publisher of live games.
I rely on Roblox daily for professional work, and being locked out due to a single UI setting with no reversal option is unacceptable. Please treat this with urgency and provide both a manual fix and a long-term platform-wide resolution.
Expected Behavior:
Please manually reset this screen time limit setting on my account so I can regain access.
Users must be allowed to log out and switch accounts from the screen time modal. Locking a browser session to one account with no escape route is unacceptable.
If the account is over 13 — especially verified 18+ — there must be an option to bypass or disable this restriction, or at minimum access Settings.
The screen time feature was explicitly stated in Roblox’s own announcement to be “designed for teens.” I am over 18 and yet I still had access to and could enable this restriction, which is contradictory to the intended rollout and constitutes a misconfiguration bug.
Most other major platforms with screen time or parental tools handle this with much more flexibility and safeguards:
TikTok: Offers a passcode override, option to disable, and always allows logout.
YouTube Kids: Allows exit via parental passcode and access to settings.
iOS & Android Digital Wellbeing: Time limits are user-configurable and can be bypassed or disabled at any time.
Netflix/Disney+: User profiles can always be switched, and logout is never blocked.
Epic Games / Steam: Time tracking is surfaced to users, not forcibly enforced without recovery options.
Roblox’s implementation does not at all follow that of other platforms.
We really appreciate your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear that this has been so frustrating for you. We think you raised a number of really good points about users being potentially very surprised that the screen time limit took effect immediately and on so many surfaces, and also about the inability to log out and switch accounts. We’re going to add in a message explaining the behavior more clearly to users, and are exploring adding in a logout functionality for 13+ users who set their own limits.
As we mentioned in our announcement, while we designed the new wellbeing features with teens in mind, we are making them available more broadly beyond teens intentionally. Digital wellbeing is something that impacts users of all ages and so it’s important to us to empower users with tools to set healthy boundaries online.
Again – we really appreciate your feedback, and you can expect to continue to see improvements in this space from us.
Just happened to me. Now I can’t play Roblox! Great.
Same situation and everything, literally set a 15 minute daily limit as a test… Seriously Roblox? Making a feature with no way to even get out of it? Absolutely unacceptable and stupid!
Ngl, yall did this to yourselves . Maybe it should have been clearer it’s a total lockout, but you guys were playing with fire setting it to 15 mins and not expecting it to be effective in preventing u from using Roblox.
Oh well you can go 1-day without Roblox hopefully .
In designing these kinds of features, its incredibly smart to reference best practices in the existing industry. For instance, apple’s time limit system allows parents to disable time limits via a passcode or a parent pin. This is not only a smart feature but necessary one to allow parental control
No, when you have already played for more than 15 minutes before activating it – it just will simply lock you out.
We didn’t play 15 minutes with the time limit, it just detects the playtime before the limit was even active and locks the account. Super stupid of Roblox to do that
I’m probably going to forget tomorrow and end up getting locked again. Also, I hadn’t played any games today; I set the limit and immediately got locked out.
Also, if someone gained access to your account without permission, they could just set a 15 minute limit and you would be able to do nothing on that account - not even change the password or secure it, for a day. Why is there no prompt for 2FA or email or anything?
Thanks—looking forward to these improvements. As myself and others have pointed out, Roblox’s implementation of this feature really needs to be more in line with how other tech companies handle similar tools. Right now, it’s not. I think it’d be great for adults to have access to it, but we absolutely need an option to turn it off manually or bypass it in situations like this.
On top of that, while I was affected by the issue, I discovered another serious flaw: because it uses the same “not-approved” system as account moderation, the screen time limit completely breaks any Open Cloud API keys set up under your account or groups — essentially blocking your access as if you were banned.
A developer setting a screen time limit to look after their wellbeing should not have their games and applications crippled as a result. @Hooksmith — I think you work in this area—maybe you could take a look?
That said, I truly appreciate that my account was manually unrestricted — thanks for this.
Andd I’m locked out again. I was briefly able to access my account, and after checking the screen time limit setting it said ‘No limit’ so I assumed the restrictions were manually reset. But after 15 minutes, my account was locked again.
This is really frustrating. Can this please be looked into as a matter of urgency. Multiple games of mine are suffering.
Day two. I checked my Roblox settings and saw I that my limit ended, so I changed it to No Limit—and I double-checked it at least three times. Yet, just 15 minutes later, I was immediately locked out. What is going on, Roblox? Now this is TWO days of waiting for this bug to be fixed. I hate this platform.
Remember, I made SURE that its limit was set to ‘No-Limit’. OVER 3 TIMES, AT LEAST!
