Seeking Advice: How to grow a solo-dev MMORPG from 0 to 100?

Hello everyone!

My name is Joelle, and I’m a solo developer currently pouring my heart and soul into a project called Caelum Quest. It is an MMORPG heavily inspired by the world of Sword Art Online, focusing on progression, atmosphere, and community-driven gameplay.

The Current Situation: I’ve been working on this project for a while now, but I’ve hit a wall regarding growth and visibility. Currently, my Discord community sits at 16 members, and while I’ve invested Robux into starting a group, the “player surge” hasn’t happened yet.

The Development Cycle: I am committed to this game for the long haul. I push weekly updates to ensure the world stays fresh and the mechanics keep evolving. While the game is still in its early stages and lacking some final “polish” features, the core loop is there, and I truly believe there is an audience out there that will love the vision I’m building.

What I’m looking for: As a solo dev, it’s hard to see the “big picture” sometimes. I’d love to hear from developers who have successfully scaled their games.

  • How do you build momentum when starting with a small community?
  • At what stage of development did you find “sponsored ads” to be most effective?
  • Is it better to focus on fixing features first, or marketing the “vibe” of the game?

I appreciate any feedback, whether it’s about the game itself or advice on how to navigate the Roblox algorithm. Thanks for taking the time to help a fellow dev out!
