Should be able to see if a user is online

Hey there guys.

I have been thinking to myself several times now that it would be very helpful if you could see if a player is online. Just like Roblox or Discord.

The addition of this feature would make life easier in so many ways. For example you could be messaging someone through private messages but you don’t know if they are just not replying or if they aren’t online. The same could work with reply’s to a topic.

I would love to hear what you guys would think of this feature.

I agree completely, that would be really helpful!! You don’t need to say your name at the bottom because we can see it at the top.

I like the idea of seeing if a user is online or not, but there’s a couple of good and bad reasons that comes into play with this. As I see it, I would rather not have a feature like this as I like to have my privacy already and being able to “appear offline” in a way is better than having everyone know when you’re online and start to bother you. It’s just best if instead they added a feature like what discord has, the option to be able to appear as “online, idle, do not disturb, or invisible” which could improve user privacy.

Yea that’s a good idea with being able to appear offline. I would definitely agree with that, Thing is Roblox doesn’t do it on its main page with being able to appear offline.

This is already possible by going on a user’s profile:

Also, forums are designed for non-real time discussions. By just adding a feature which will make us understand easier if a user is online or not, the activity of this forum could be lowered, since a user might think that no one will like or reply to a post they made.

I guess somewhat but it would be nice if there was say a little green circle or something beside the users icon so you wouldn’t have to click on there profile to see it.

There’s an existing discourse plugin for this:

At the cost of being harmful performance-wise, especially for a huge community like ours

I wouldn’t expect the staff to implement this with these drawbacks.

You could create your own client-sided script that would do this for you. I’ve seen people make scripts for various aesthetical purposes.

I think it ends up leaning more towards a chat room or some sort of social media, rather than a professional forum for game development discussion.

If they implement this I’d want an option to disable it and I would disable it for my account.

If definitely agree, or you can go into settings and just choose wether you want people to see if you are online or not
