Should I continue this drafted game? Or completely start over

Hey there,
So I have been working on a parkour type game last year and this is how it looks: no structure, just the basic movements with some speed n jump boosters. It is about how the game would feel (just imagine a good looking map)

game:

Loads of stuff (all the ui) is not visible by the way. I am just asking for any ideas. I was thinking of an escape, horror multiplayer game. Or maybe a round based game? I am so clueless.

Controls!!: E to slide, E to dash while in air, c to crouch, shift to sprint, hold a/d while on (red) wall to wall climb. MUST BE IN FIRST PERSON ALL THE TIME!

Hey there!

Your game has a lot of potential, and I think a round-based system would be a fantastic addition to give it more structure and replayability. Here’s why:

With a round-based format, you can introduce custom game modes to keep players engaged and offer a variety of challenges. For example:

  • Time Trials: Players compete to finish the parkour course the fastest.
  • Survival Mode: Players must avoid hazards or obstacles while navigating the map, with eliminations each round.
  • Escape Mode: A multiplayer mode where players work together to escape a map, possibly with a horror twist or an AI chasing them.
  • Parkour Tag: One player is “it” and must tag others, but everyone can use the parkour mechanics to escape.

By keeping rounds short and maps diverse, players will always have something new to look forward to. You could also add leaderboards, cosmetics, or unlockable content tied to achievements during rounds to keep them coming back.

I really think a system like this could take your game to the next level. Looking forward to seeing where you take it!

Thanks a lot! I have made a forgotten “todo” saved in my game: I was thinking of following:

for shop:
should have different sections:

  1. Gamepasses
  2. Trails (im not sure if in crates or just buyable)
  3. Power Ups → unlockable if reached a level, not tradeable
  4. character customazation /hair, face, body colors
  5. Points
  • maybe a new inventory section for owned items
  • trade (trade trails → thats the reason why maybe unlockable in crates)
  • a unique system which keeps the player in-game:
  1. maybe rebirths (for levels, same as in mm2)

abilities:
unlock new abilities by leveling up
when inspecting ability:
-pro + cons
-cooldown

for races:
1 chosen race map:
races appear every 5/10 minutes and are only avaulbe if over 5 players are in the game and have to be unlocked witha specific level (same with some levels in singleplayer)

But a horror type chase game would also be appealing no? I really am not sure how to make this game ought lol

It just needs a lil… shaping. UI looks clean, some sounds while clicking those buttons could be nice.

The camera movement adds that extra OOMPH, which I really like. (However, there should definitely be a setting that reduces this effect.)
The movement does seem a bit clunky as of right now, such as the player not being able to easily walljump, and the part where players have to go up slopes (I did so while jumping and just slid around and couldn’t really move for a short while)…
Add some shiftlock, make the camera move accordingly.
Focus your attention more on the building aspect, make it visually appealing. Also add some more sounds, some VFX when you’re going 1000 miles per hour (like some speedlines or something).
Add some more objects onto the map that could hinder/help players move across.
Maybe make the player do a more “chaotic” animation (have their arms and legs flail a lil) when they’re flying across the air, to add some depth.

Thank you for your feedback!
As mentioned the game had nothing to offer in terms of building and I havent even started doing anything. I have a huge todo list with all kinds of gamemodes, races, etc. Im judt not sure how much potentional this has

In terms of animation, I will definitely add sound effects and vfx when gaining speed. I thought of a camera wobble and a little camera shake when turning right or left. Did you play the game in 1st person as intended? It sucks in 3rd person in terms of animation and no shiftlock.

I have also thought about adding an animation section in the shop where people can purchase different running animations… And yeah some bugs like wallrunning etc has to be fixed
