Should I give up and move to another project/game? Or it is still good enough to pursue it further?

In the late July - beginning of August I started to work on this current project (even though the place is made since January).

I thought to make a small educational game that kids could enjoy. I am not the most advanced developer out there, but with some time, I can script some pretty interesting interactions. So I spent a few hours every week, sometimes delaying progress because of exams, but I always got satisfied with what I got. Unfortunately I don’t know building, modelling or 3D design so most of the assets (90%) are free models. I intend to learn this area of development too.

Player retention has been decent by now. I get around 20 minutes on average and I had two players that played (afk I suppose) 6h+ in one session.

Before the shut-down I used to get around 35-40 visits a day, now I get around 15-25 which troubles me a little, but low numbers anyways.

Robux-wise the game is not doing that well. I got around 600 robux from sales (which has been made by friends/ or people that wanted to test the game for hiring purposes, but 0 purchases from any of the average players .It also managed to get 1400 robux through robux payouts which is nice.

But these numbers are not high, they are pretty low. Overall, this little project managed to improve my skillset and I am decently proud of it, but I am not sure if it is worth pursuing this project anymore or to move to the next one. What do you think?

Ultimately the choice is up to you. I played the game and despite the massive focus on education, it’s not a bad game. You mentioned that 35-40 people played it before the outage which shows there is a player base that does enjoy it. The map and tycoon could be updated. Education games may not get many players just due to little kids wanting to have fun and some would get put off by educational side.

If you don’t feel like you are passionate about updating or changing then other projects would be the answer. Hope this helps :grinning:

I absolutely love the idea of educational games for children, but to be blunt, Roblox unfortunately isn’t the right place for that market of games.
Although, learning from creating games is a very valuable thing (imo). So if you feel like your not comfortable yet with Roblox’s engine, I definitely think you should keep doing this, especially if this is your passion!

This seems like an ok tycoon, it needs some work done. I personally think you should put more effort into it before dropping it, so here are my suggestions. The UIs are in your face (atleast for computer) and need new images (you could use game-icons.net). I would also make it so that when you hit a button on the side and that UI is already open it closes again. The game could use more content to keep players interested. It is a pretty good concept.

By “the UIs are in your face” you mean like the portion of the screen taken by the UI is too big? Thank you very much for you suggestions and the resource!

Do you like working on your game/project and why you feeling to give up?

Yes, it is a joy to work on it and see people playing it, but I’d also like it to be a reasonable source of robux, which it doesn’t do very well.

have you ever tried revamps on the map or the entire game to make it more intresting?

By now I focused on putting more stuff into it as it felt kinda empty. I’ll try to decorate more the map before daily rewards and pets, thanks!

Hey how is the game going or have you changed project?

Hi! Is going ok by now. I had a few sales after the map revamp, but especially after making it that you can buy stuff with buttons that you walk on.

I’ll make stuff like daily bonuses and placing two floors and after that I’ll move fully to another project or commissions, but returning to it for an update or two.

Actually, your issue ISNT robux, it’s players. You have INSANE robux earnings from 3k visits, and if you put more into advertising and make the game more kid friendly, possibly at the cost of some educational aspects of the game, it will succeed.

Also advertise, a lot.

Thats nice whats the next project then

Just played your tycoon and if I’m being honest, I can see potential in it. If you improve it by asking for feedback on different aspects of the game here on the DevForums, I’m sure it can improve massively. With a bit of different advertisment strategies, I’m sure your game can go further over time so don’t give up just yet. Plus, you didn’t make it this far just to quit, if you were to quit then you’re guaranteeing yourself failure. But those are just my thoughts, at the end of the day it’s up to you but I’d suggest to keep pushing.

I played your tycoon and its pretty good I may not give the most professional advice but when you level up from noob to reader , beginner etc can u reduce the lag? Its seems educational which is really good but add some sort of pvp system like a quiz or something that would be nice to see and if improved further do alot of advertising and the main thing is develpoment of the game Mainly relies on how much fun you have making the game I made around 8 games but never advertised it cuz im broke but I dont really care cuz its fwun hope it helps!

I personally think it is a great game! Great for younger kids to improve their memory. I think if you enjoy working on it and want to continue it, it would do great!!

Played it and honestly I like the idea! Its nice to see some more education focused games on Roblox.

Some good things about it:

  • I really like the thumbnails/Icons. Who ever made them did a good job, and they fit perfectly for the game.
  • The music is nice. Its not too loud, and it is honestly relaxing! (which is great, as I see some games either put waay to loud music, or make it something that gets annoying when looped).
  • The map looks pretty nice, I really like the little science beakers used as grass texture.

Some things that need to be improved:

  • The overall UI’s. The designs are just not the best they could be (Its a science game afterall, have a bit more fun with it!). Also some of them are just not the best quality, like these:

(They look a bit pixelated, and the shadings (the darkest blues+the gray over the black outline) just look rough and end up making the image look like it was cut out).
  • The title above the player’s head is honestly a bit distracting, especially when it gets in the way of text. I either recommend making it smaller, OR putting it on the leaderboard instead.
  • The leaderboard is definitely out of place. Instead of keeping it as basics “blue, red, green, etc” why not change it to something more fun and sciency? (or simply change it so as your level goes up, it changes on the leaderboard instead of above your head)

If you want to improve the game a bit before moving on, I recommend looking at the stuff I mentioned.

Hmm, how would you think it could be more kid friendly? I thought maybe change the addition board entirely and swapping it with something else.

I think lowering the brain points cost of upgrading to a better floor will help?

Edit: unfortunately I don’t dispose of enough fonds to advertise it. I tried to do it a while back, but the results weren’t very good. (maybe I should try with another ad in the future)

I am not sure yet. I thought maybe on a little game where you save your roblox friends (NPC’s with the same clothes as your friends, like in mall tycoon) from different dangers. I have a few more ideas in a list, I just need the time to develop them=))

Listening to feedback is always important if you want to improve. Thoughts from outside always help.

I am still questioning if I should quit roblox and move to Unity or Unreal, but I’ll give roblox a chance until July I think.
