@isaiahbur do you mean mechanics? Seems like you are also talking about features.
Honestly it doesn’t matter. It may matter about what type of game it is.
But honestly what I think is that you shouldn’t have too many features/mechanics in a game or it will just get crowded, like you have a thunderstorm every 5 minutes, a sandstorm every 4 minutes, and a hurricane every 1 minutes. That would just make the game “crowded” with features/mechanics and people may not like it.
I’m particularly talking about gamplay/character mechanics so like having to focus on more things than just health but I get what your saying and that’s one of my main worry’s the game getting a little crowded with little mechanics here and there.
Maybe a fine balance of advanced features with simple gameplay mechanics would do it. Easy to play but still has a good amount to it. Because I think the main thing I would need to worry about is a player not understanding how to play or what’s going on
Personally I think starting out in the Alpha/Beta stages, you can make it simple. But slowly start to add more advanced features as time moves on to increase updates and the popularity of the game.
There’s also games like Deathrun that just straight up bring out advanced features to the game at the start – which is good too.
