Hi all! Recently around a week or two ago, I was encouraged by a friend to remake an old build from late 2017, which was just a simple house surrounded by hills. After that, it would be my last build for a while before I disconnected from the platform and moved on to other things. [Pics Below]
As I said earlier, I decided to remake the project with the best of my knowledge, as well as learning new things along the way. So I decided to divide these into separate categories.
What I knew
Before starting the project, I knew that plugins would help, I had already previously installed a Curve Plugin that would draw sloped lines impacted by gravity. This would help with builds like bridges and vines.
I had already also known about custom meshes and textures that I can create in Blender, which would help with a few things.
And finally, I knew that Moon Animator would give more life to the NPC’s inside of the game (no scripting work done to create dialogue yet).
What I made
Here is my current build progress!
What I learned
As stated earlier, I learned of many new plugins that would assist me in making this look way better. Notably, the Tree Generator, The Waterfall Generator, and the Material Picker, which helped me break out the boundaries of my previous building experiences.
I also learned to take advantage of new lighting capabilities that I haven’t used before, such as SunRays, ColorCorrection, Bloom, Fog, and Blur, which made quite the difference in comparison to my old game!
Additionally, Particles helped me create a spotlight for the door
And helped me animate the flies hovering around the trash can (as seen in a previous reference picture.). Particles are a great part of building that I underestimated, I will be sure to use these way more frequently.
Conclusion
Overall, I think this turned out way better. I’ve learned so much about Studio and it’s capabilities, and i’m hoping I can use this project to learn even more building tips. Obviously it’s not a perfect build and has some flaws, so if you feel there’s anything to point out, please let me know! Thanks
