I was wondering if, when a user makes all of his or her places inactive, the pane could just disappear instead of looking all ugly-like. I know this isn’t very big or beneficially to most users, but I don’t think it would take much time and resources to do.

I think if anything it’s the other way around, if you’re OBC you might not notice they’re OBC (Though why would you care?), where as if you’re not OBC, it’s rather obvious from the dark page that the person is OBC.
When we re-make this page I’ll mention this to the designer

Else players will be like “omzur hax! no Places-tab!” (and we all know that’s gonna happen)

I’d rather not have it like that. Then it’s just a blank space on the page. It’d be just as bad as it is now.

I like this idea. There’s no need for it if there’s no games to display. It also looks better if it’s simply not there; it really just takes up space in that case.

Not really a blank space, that message would take up much less space.
With the added space, the Friends-tab etc would just go higher

It’d make everything less clean. You’d rather not have a tab that’s supposed to show games just saying “The user has no games.” It works with badges and groups because it doesn’t change the height of their boxes. With places however, the spacing would look truly awful.
Interest for this came up again. Any word on uhh, if this’ll happen?
Even though it’s a small change it would help make the page cleaner.

As a temporary work around you can always use adblock, not perfect but it’s better
