They say that the universe we share is dying, slowly, with disorder and chaos being more frequent. The energy created by the universe too is on the road to an inevitable fate where all things become too distant and rare, and eventually vanish as if it never existed.

A distant civilization made no exception to this rule, and in fact, drove it. In the safe haven of the star system of Alcor, a race thrived for millennia, constructing great feats of architecture and engineering to power their society. They connected the outer colonies to the home world of Scourge, and created a vast trading empire that connected all of the peoples of the system.

However their secret to technological domination was a dark one. These people were hunters, cruel bio-mimetic beings who stopped at nothing to advance and protect their way of life; even if that meant the end of other forms of life. They targeted one thing alone, distant star systems; strong and alive with a steady pulse. A massive fleet of harvesters, cruisers, and escorts were sent out to systems to initiate a breach.

A breach is the sudden and violent murder of a star, and any form of matter within its detonation range. Using advanced magnetic disruption rounds, a single volley from the fleet at incredible distances would collapse a star’s magnetic field, causing another heartbeat of the universe to implode on its own weight and die. The fleet would harvest the raw heat, light, and radiation energy and concentrate it into hardlight, of which a single pound could power a planet for days.

This energy allowed the civilization to construct a vast, powerful military to seek out their goals. The hardlight energy powered their ships, armor, weapons, and machines of war. So when a harvest fleet comes into contact with a foreign civilization desperate to defend their system, they rarely stand little chance. The hunters would quickly dispatch their fleets, and either harvest their sun, or invade and colonize the system. In both scenarios, the native peoples have little to no chance at life.

Now, every century or so, you’ll notice another bright dot in the sky vanish to never return, and leave a part of the universe eternally dark and cold. Someday, your system may share the same fate; for the star hunters of Alcor will stop at nothing to power their way of life for an eternity.
