Solid modeling buttons not enable

Solid Modeling buttons don’t work, but the same option with right click works.
It still happens if Studio Solid Modeling Improvements is active or not:

Can’t union CornerWedgePart or WedgePart with other parts.

  • Right click and insert CornerWedgePart or WedgePart.
  • Selecting next to another part and tries to click some Solid Modeling buttons.

Unique parts unions are not allowed.

  • Select a part.
  • Try to click on Union in the Solid Modeling section

Expected behavior

Solid modeling should enable.

For CornerWedgePart and WedgePart maybe mark them as obsolete? Since Part.Shape exist.

I had also noticed this problem, though I have come up with some work-arounds for studio modelers who need to be able to use solid modeling tools.

1: Reusing your models

You can reuse models you have for certain union shapes needed for a new model

2: Insert a SpecialMesh into a part
Not recommended you do this.

Inserting a SpecialMesh into a part will change its shape immediately, so to get the shape you want, select the SpecialMesh and go into its properties and change its MeshType.
Though this only works with spheres (as of testing and typing this out). But the shape at which you click on to move it stays the same size, so its difficult to click on.

3: Union 1 extremely small part to a normal part.

This seems to work best in my opinion.

Simply re-size a random part to 0.001,0.001,0.001.
Copy the position of the part you’re trying to make a union.
Paste the position of the main part into the random part.
Select both parts and union them together.

You should get the union you need.

I hope this helped anyone who is looking for temporary solutions to this until this is fixed.

I apologize if these are not the best things to do as temporary work arounds, since I don’t do a whole lot of high quality modeling.
I also apologize if the formatting of this post is terrible, this is my first time making a reply to something.

Same thing here! (I was about to work more on the lobby and add holes into the grass using unioned and rescaled spheres but I can’t do that rn.)

I have the same issue, except when I right click in attempts to reach it they’re greyed out aswell!

Hi, thanks for reporting this! We updated the buttons’ selectability on Monday, and it looks like it wasn’t tested to work correctly in all cases. We’ll revert the change as quickly as possible. EDIT: It’s reverted now. In the meantime, using Part.Shape=Wedge instead of Wedge or using right click → Union should work. For self-unioning, right-click is probably the fastest way.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

I think your issue is probably the same one as Unions Don't Work Anymore After Update which should be fixed now. Please reply if it doesn’t resolve your issue.

It’s getting worse, I don’t know what is going on, but both solid modeling and material service are disabled somehow, all my materials are now appearing as just smooth plastic?

That’s hopefully the same issue as Unions Don't Work Anymore After Update too, could you restart studio and see if it’s still happening?

still the same, i tried checking for updates to see if there’s a patch but there’s no updates either

Also, Idk if this helps, but it IS a studio problem and not just my game getting data corrupted/erased accidentally, all my other games right now are also material/textureless.

All the data on the textures has been erased somehow

The solid modeling buttons issue has been reverted, so it should be working as usual now. I apologize again for the inconvenience!

I’m not able to reproduce this material manager issue locally… would you be able to provide a file to help us debug it?

It unironically got fixed just now, but solid modeling hasnt

That’s very surprising! Is solid modeling broken completely for you? Like if you just made two new Blocks, you can’t union them? (After restarting studio again)

The whole solid modeling area of the hotbar is completely disabled/greyed out

That’s interesting, we’ll look into it. I have heard that doing Studio Settings → Reset All Settings fixed this for one person. Of course, if you’ve customized a lot of settings I can understand that being annoying.

I am still having this exact same issue with wedges.

This thread has been solved.
