You often see people in games with external soundboards (E.G. voicemod). The problem is that because it is external software, it’s difficult to moderate and make accessible to those without the ability to use external software (like if you’re on mobile).
Not only that, but excessive external soundboard use can be annoying and disruptive. This practice is calling “micspamming” and if you’ve ever played a game like counter strike you are likely very familiar with it.
A native implementation of soundboards into voice chat solves these problems twofold. Each person could pick a few sounds off of either the creator marketplace, or it could be implemented as its own type of product on the regular avatar marketplace, similar to emotes.
To solve the problem of micspamming, there could be a slider controlling the volume of soundboard effects, separate to voice chat. Additionally, you would also have the option to mute a specific person’s sound effects, like how muting someones VC works.
Why would this solve these problems, wouldn’t it just make micspamming easier? Maybe, but the option for muting it as well as it serving as a “path of least resistance” would make it not too big of an issue. Less players would use external software, meaning it would be more moderated, as well as mutable as mentioned many times prior.
