The Spider-Tank!
Today, I want to share an old idea of mine—a prototype enemy I came up with for a Transformers-inspired game. I handled the concept and design myself, while a good friend of mine brought it to life with artwork based on my notes.
This Spider-Tank was meant to be a sniper-type enemy, with one terrifying twist: it stood 15 meters tall.
For its legs, I took inspiration from a black widow spider mixed with a mech from Front Mission (yeah, that game older than some of you guys). The upper half, though, was a hybrid of a T-80 and an M1 Abrams tank.
This thing (which never got a proper name) was brutally powerful. It would hang back, picking you off with deadly accurate shots that almost never missed. It had five health bars: one for its main body (the toughest) and one for each of its four legs. The catch? Blowing off its legs weakened its core health.
Fighting it was a tactical nightmare. If you tried sneaking up with a Scout, it would either deploy distraction drones or rain missiles on you. The best strategy? Use a Deployer (like Soundwave or Blaster, who could send out Cassettes) to swarm it. Or, if you were feeling bold, just go Combiner mode and smash it head-on.
I never finished the Spider-Tank because I got stuck on the 3D body design—it kept looking too boxy or not futuristic enough.
But even though I don’t need it anymore, maybe somebody out there can put this idea to use. So if it sparks your creativity: it’s yours now.
