State Highway Patrol Procedures

Citation Procedure

Before issuing a citation to someone you should first make verbal contact with the subject and address the violation(s). Prior to writing the citation, you should look at their prior criminal & citation history. It is then the discretion of the issuing Trooper whether the citation is issued or dismissed with or without a financial penalty.

Arrest Procedure

Before placing a suspect in handcuffs to arrest them, make sure they have an active warrant using the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT). Prior to making an arrest, you should search the suspect (both roleplay & in-game search mechanism) to see if they have anything out of the ordinary. After you have searched them, notify them of why they are being placed under arrest.

Traffic Stop Procedure

Get behind the vehicle you are trying to conduct a traffic stop on. Activate your emergency lights via the “Code 3” button. If the vehicle is taking too long to pull over you may then activate your “Manual” siren button for a short amount of time to give verbal notice to the fact that you are trying to conduct a traffic stop on them. Once the vehicle has come to a complete stop you should activate your traffic advisor to the correct way that traffic should flow. Advise other officers that you are currently on a traffic stop by calling it out on the police radio. You should give the make & model of the vehicle, the color, the license plate, and the location of the final stop. You can optionally also notify whether you want or do not want backup. Exit your vehicle after you’ve notified dispatch. Approach the suspect’s vehicle, and choose a door that if the safest for you. It’s suggested you go to the passenger side if traffic is a hazard on the driver’s side. Identify yourself by name & agency. Ask the subject for their driver’s license. You may also ask for their vehicle’s registration and proof of insurance. Get back to your vehicle and run their name & license plate through the MDT. Then, approach their vehicle with your decision. Be sure to follow Citation Procedure listed on page four (4).

Pursuit Procedure

If you are the primary officer, your job is to stay with the suspect at all costs. You do not need to worry about using the radio to call in locations if there is a secondary officer behind you. If you are the secondary officer in the pursuit, your job is to stay with the suspect and radio in the location of the pursuit. If you are neither the primary or secondary officer and you are in the pursuit, your job is to stay with the pursuit and take over secondary if the secondary loses control. Secondary should take over for primary if the primary loses control.
