Stopped Receiving Auto-Recoveries

Both Auto Recovery Folders (old and new) stopped receiving Auto Recovery placefiles.

I check the local appdata RobloxStudio folder (which im sure is the new one that roblox uses) and the ROBLOX folder auto recoveries. I have lost so much work and projects because of this, Anyone know whats going on?

Would also like to add onto this, while my auto recoveries do still work, I only ever seem to get one like every so often, usually like a few months a part. which is not ideal:

As you can see, my AutoSaves folder is empty

I have the same issue, don’t know whats going on honestly. I also have lost work over this. On one place I saw that an auto recovery file was “created” while working on it before I lost it, checked the folder even the new directory and found nothing of it.

Hi there,

Can you provide some repro for this issue. At the moment auto save seems working fine for me.

(Also, the auto saved file will be deleted once the place is closed normally as it is a mean to recover from crash or unexpected quit. Not sure if this is the confusing part to the issue mentioned here)

Thanks!

I think most people expect auto recoveries to build up, so you have something to go back to if you made a mistake and accidentally saved it. I remember years back this used to be the case (I believe) it felt like auto recoveries were much more useful back then (especially during offline/local file work)

Hmm, okay, that explains some of the confusion.

Personally, I feel that auto-recovery shouldn’t be used in that way – it’s meant to be a last resort for recovering a file. Therefore, once the place is successfully closed, the auto-recovery file is no longer needed.

Also, we should probably use Version History to handle versioning or backup functionality instead.

I’m not aware of the old behavior you mentioned. I wonder if it was that way because, in some cases, we forgot to clean up the auto-recovery file when closing the Place or Studio, and that bug was later fixed. From the user’s perspective, it used to be possible to have multiple auto-recovery files in that folder, but now it always cleans itself up.

Issue is we do not have that sort of functionality on local files or new places that we may work for a very long time without saving/publishing.

Also sometimes local files corrupt, which i have had happen to me a couple of times..

ive even found this to be problematic sometimes, as i or someone else may accidentally close the window on my computer, which causes more lost work.

And sometimes i cannot always work on places with team create or published places as our internet is sometimes unreliable and cuts out for long periods of time. Local work and a log of auto recoveries and files ensure i dont lose work on my PC

There are quite a few scenarios where I have lost quite a bit of work. auto recoveries in their current behaviour are pretty useless to me, and i feel like having a backlog option would be very nice and solve most issues we’re describing (i.e make a new auto recovery every X amount of minutes) maybe even with a limit which removes the oldest file to prevent the folder filling up too much up to a certain number of files

Yeah, that is for sure understandable.

Maybe try to submit a feature request so product and design and review it.
