I wrote a script for a game I’m working on called “Biohack.” It follows two 16 year old’s from a small northern Californian town, and their adventure to rescue a missing cat.
Script (It's a bit long. Be advised!)
The year is 2009…
Chapter 1: Humid Horror
Sam Black, a 16 year old football player from Willow, California, wakes up on a summer morning to check on his cat, Pat, and hopefully hang with his friends. With his parents out of town on a work trip, he’s looking to enjoy the relaxation of Summer. However, Pat is nowhere to be found. Everywhere Sam looks, Pat isn’t, until he checks the back yard; There is a clear sign of struggle, with blood found on the fence wall facing towards the forest behind his house. Assuming the worst had happened, Sam climbs his fence and follows a trail of blood and footprints, until they lead to an open manhole cover over by the irrigation site. Sam climbs through the manhole, and drops down into a dark, humid environment within the sewers. Thankfully, the perpetrator had apparently dropped their lighter, which is used by Sam to light the dark area up. With no way back up the manhole, Same ventures to a locked door, where the footsteps end. After searching around the area, he finds a crowbar hidden in a control room, in which he activates the lighting, and breaks open the lock.
Chapter 2: Office Work
The door creaks open, unveiling a labratory-esque building with hallways, security doors, and hospital lighting. Sam quickly spots two scientists talking about their scheme to kidnap pets from residential areas, and sell them to big corporations. Sam hides behind some storage box’s, and he quickly looks for a way to get around the scientists, one by one, hoping to uncover more clues as to where Pat might be. He eventually has no other choice but to silently take out the two workers, and use one of their keycards to unlock the next room, which unveils a pedestal holding a tool with many wires attached to it… some sort of gun. Regardless, he takes it and looks for clues. Eventually, after taking out guards and maneuvering around, he stumbles into a room with a folder on the table, labeled “TOP-SECRET.” However, after taking it, a super-soldier appears, and initiates a boss fight. Using the laser gun and his environment, Sam eventually knocks him to the ground, shoots a gas-line and throws the lighter, running as fast as he can to the tunnel exit. Barely escaping.
Chapter 3: Great Heights
Sam runs home, and calls his friend Amy Smith, a computer expert. She and Sam meet at a park bench and look at the folder, finding out that the pets had been sold to a shady Californian business empire called “Onyx Corporation,” and they are looking to run deadly tests on the animals that will without a doubt, kill them. They find Pat on the list of sold animals, so Amy does some research and they figure out that the Onyx office building is located in Sacramento, which isn’t far. So Sam and Amy get in his truck, and make their way to the office building late at night. Amy disables the security cameras from the truck, and the two hop out, and scale to the electrical box, where they temporarily shut off the power, and climb through the ventilation unnoticed. They avoid confrontation, until they make it to an executive room- but it seems that the guards had prepared for something like this, as the ventilation does not go to the room. Sam and Amy jump out of the vents, and silently take out the guards. However, the door is locked, so using the Laser gun, Sam cuts it open, and slowly creeps in with Amy. She hacks the computer at the desk, and uncovers top secret information on her USB-Drive. But just as they thought they were in the clear, the knocked out guards were spotted, and backup burst through the door, opening fire, and initiating the second boss-fight. The stray bullets shatter the window behind the two, and Same takes a big risk to jump out the window while holding on the the blinds, until he swing-smashes himself into the room below, but he then realizes that Amy is still stuck up there, so he climbs through the vents, and lifts himself behind the guards, and shoots the large chandelier- crushing the guards, and saving Amy. The two quickly escape the building before more guards show up, and flee home in Sam’s truck.
Chapter 4: “All is Lost”
When the pair get to Amy’s house, she cracks open the information, and they find out that the Animals have been transported to a secret building in Alaska. Amy looks around the downloaded folder, and she figures out the coordinates of the said secret building. However, they have no way to get there, so they brainstorm. Sam eventually comes with the solution of taking a boat from the shore of Northern Washington along the coast of Canada, until they eventually reach Alaska. They do the math, and find out that it will be a 4 day trip to reach their destination. Sam thinks the risk is worth it, but they have one issue- they don’t have a boat. With no money, their only option is to steal one. Late at night, they make their way to the coast, and look for a boat that was put up for auction. They find it, and break the lock, secretly loading it onto Sam’s hitch, and they drive away in the night, hiding it in the garage.
Chapter 5: Land 'Ahoy
The next days are a blur. Stockpiling gear, planning the trip, and trying to explain to their parents that a friend wants to bring them on a “fishing” trip, the duo head out on their road trip with the boat, driving from Southern California, to Washington. After a long drive through California and Oregon, they make it to the Northiest docks they could find in Washington, and set sail. The trip goes rough. Sam gets sea-sick, and Amy has trouble trying avoiding the authorities- but they eventually make it to the shore. Cold and wet, Sam and Amy sleep in the cabin until early morning. They walk to the coordinates, and station themselves atop a mountain overlooking the secret area, scouting it until further notice. Amy decides that the best course of action is to play it stealth, and get out of there fast. They head back to the boat, and rest up until midnight arrives, however, Sam can’t shake the feeling something bad will happen…
Chapter 6: Crumble
Midnight arrives. Using a rented snowmobile, they make their way over with a cage, hoping to transport the animals safely. The duo park behind some trees, and in their heavy winter clothes, make their way to the building. They scale the building with a rope, and some skillful parkour, making their way to a vent. Repelling down, and being careful to avoid guards, Amy finds a room with a large control panel, featuring buttons that open different doors. Amy stays behind to help Sam get past the locks, until he finds it- bunches of house pets locked in cages, and stacked together like cargo. But suddenly, Amy’s radio cackles- a sinister sounding man captured, her, and is threatening to kill her. So Sam abandons the animals, and races to the control room, only to be ambushed. He and Amy are sedated, and stuffed inside box’s back in the animal room- until they eventually realize- they are going to run tests on them as well. With no time to lose, Sam kicks the cage gate until his box falls to the floor and smashes open. He quickly helps Amy, and the two are now out. But then- an explosion. Dr. Onyx, the sinister sounding man behind the whole operation finds the them, weaponless. Dr. Onyx talks about how he had a gut feeling someone would try to stop him, referencing how he was sent footage of Sam breaking into the underground lab, and stealing his laser gun, and received word that only shortly after, someone had stolen secret information from his office. Backed by guards, it seems impossible to take him out, so Sam and Amy flee to the operating room down the hall, and lock the door. With only seconds to spare, Amy roughly manages to shut off the power using the medical computer, and the pair sneak through a vent, and back into the control room. However, they realize it won’t be long until Dr. Onyx realizes where they are, so the two quickly open the armory door, and bolt to grab weapons.
Chapter 7: Biohack
The pair make it back to the storage room, and find that Dr. Onyx had left. So the two quickly take out the guards, and load the animals onto the snowmobile while Sam reconnects with Pat, finding him alive, but weak. But then, Dr. Onyx appears, but this time he’s different. He explains how he had created a bioweapon that could turn him into a reptile-human, and how he couldn’t wait to test it out on Sam and Amy. He then injects himself with a green-like serum, and transforms, and initiates the final boss fight. Sam and Amy fight hard, avoiding his fire breathing and ability to shoot acid at the two with the help of guards. But eventually, the pair knock him to the ground. With the facility burning to the ground, Sam and Amy have no choice but to escape, leaving Dr. Onyx in the aftermath. The pair ride into the night sky while the facility explodes behind them.
Chapter 8: Epilogue (I wrote this more bookish-like. Different format lol)
The year is 2025.
We fade into an animal shelter, where happy animals play and roam freely. Sam Black, now a 32-year-old police officer, arrives with his cat, Pat, and his wife, Amy Black.
The couple speaks with the shelter owner, purchasing the struggling facility and becoming its new owners.
Later, in their Southern California home, their 13-year-old daughter, Margaret, rummages through old boxes. She stumbles across a brown notebook, filled with entries from her dad’s teenage years.
Flipping through, she finds photos of her parents: Sam holding a rifle, Amy beside him—in places she never imagined. Confused, she digs deeper, finding more and more evidence of a past her parents never spoke of.
The front door creaks open. Startled, Margaret shoves the notebook under her bed.
Sam and Amy call her down for dinner; pizza.
Margaret quietly joins them, nibbling at her slice, lost in thought. Sensing something’s off, Sam asks if she’s okay.
“I’m just… not hungry,” she replies, eyes darting away.
That night, Margaret hides under the covers, reading the notebook by flashlight. Suddenly, her parents enter, catching her in the act.
Cornered by their questions, she hesitates, then shows them the book.
The room falls silent.
Amy glances at Sam, who smirks slightly and sits beside Margaret.
With a deep breath, he says,
“Let me tell you about the summer of 2009…"
