Story or the Characters?

Alright, I am almost done with my new game, and wanted your opinion on something.

Since my game requires both characters AND a story, would you rather me focus more on the story or on the characters?

Meaning should I make unique characters, or plain ones (similar to piggy, but in my own way) or focus more on the story?

  • Focus on the story more
  • Focus on the characters more
  • A bit of both

Thanks so much for helping!

Please explain why in a reply.

Firstly, if im not mistaken, you already were hiring someone who’d make characters for you, and also, the story will obviously be the main part of the game, so you should focus on that

You are not mistaken, however, I have not chosen any yet, so I took this opportunity to ask.

Okay lol, almost forgot :eyes: I still have to show you some character examples xd

I originally answered characters because i believe the main issue with the majority of piggy like games is having basic, bland and uninteresting characters (like cocoa for example) But to note though i think a very major issue with the low quality ones is complete lack of story and cutscenes. so honestly probably a bit of both but it depends on what you feel like emphasizing

Alright then, very interesting.

If I were to provide basic characters in the style of the piggy ones, but related to my games story, yet provide an excellent example of a story, would that make up for the characters or should I actually make better characters?

That would probably depend on certain variables like how good the story was and what type of PLG your making. I personally like to see more variety in characters, but that would also depend on how good your models were and how suited they were to the genre. sorry for the somewhat vague answer :ok_hand:

I feel like a good character and a good story helps immerse the players into the game. You can have an amazing storyline but a badly build character or a great character but a bad storyline…it throws off the players. So that’s why I answered both.
With Piggy the style is very consistent. The characters and the story work together.

Personally, if the characters aren’t great but the story is then I would play it

You need to focus on the story, as characters are within a story, or wrote back in when authors complete a novel. Focusing on characters first lacks the well wrote story! You want to make sure they’re both heavily even throughout.

Alright, thanks!

I will now, as a result of the more popular choice, focus on both and making both features unique!
