Strange behavior with tool rotation after adding constraints

I have had this problem only once or twice in the past (2022-ish), but have not recorded it until now. When trying to rotate some tools, they will spin erratically instead. I don’t know what causes this. Last time I had not touched the tool outside of maybe trying to add a weld, but this time I had:

  • put a weldconstraint connecting a union to the handle
  • put the tool in a rig
  • added a motor6d connecting the union to the handle, again
  • went into the animation editor and attempted to rotate the tool.

First, the tool didn’t rotate at all, so I got rid of the rig and put the tool in a new rig, then this happened.
