How can I create one of those mega obbies without getting copyrighted or getting a DMCA? I’m not directly copying anyone or using assets from other games but I’m trying to create an obby without making stages that closely resemble stages from other obbies. Where is the line drawn? How closely can a stage resemble another from a popular obby?
Considering the amount of Obby experiences we have on this platform, you are pretty much able to copy stages from other games as each game 100% has at least one same type of stage.
However, crossing the line would be copying a single experience entirely; stages, systems, features, etc.
If the stage that you are trying to replicate is unique to an experience, like something you have never seen anywhere else, the best way you can go about this is to have inspiration from it, and switch it up to be unique to yours.
Best case scenario; contact the development group of the game you are getting inspiration from and ask permission. Great communication goes a long way.
Obviously I’m not copying any game directly. The closest thing I’ve done is join a few games and get some ideas. But I haven’t directly copied anything.
So if I don’t directly copy a specific experience, I should be fine?
Yes. As long as you don’t copy direct, you should be fine.
As it is an obby game that is very generalized, stages aren’t usually copyrighted and enforced.
If a game were to come at you for copyright, simply follow their request, or contact roblox support for help.
none of these stages are unique, they were re-used inf times. It`s okay, you can use them
