Over the past 2 and a half or so weeks, I’ve been working on a acquiring a player base for my game Superbike Grand Prix, and from the stats I’ve been tracking, my user data isn’t looking very good. I’ve utilized the funnels feature to figure out where players are losing interest during the onboarding process, and I’ve noticed that significant amount of the people who play never complete a lap.
I’m pretty new to all of this stuff as I’ve never created a successful game and have no clue what to look for. I also believe having external feedback would be helpful because I’m probably not seeing a glaring issue. Any feedback is appreciated. I’ve taken the time to test it both on Mobile (Samsung S22 Ultra) and PC. Good work so far!
You’re right, Step 5 has a churn of 25.81%. Let’s break down what happens from when they actually get on the bike. At this point, players need to actually start driving and that’s where the skill gap kicks in.
New players who aren’t comfortable with the controls will struggle. They might drift off the track, crash, and once they’re off course it can be hard or confusing to recover.
That friction is probably causing a chunk of them to drop out before they even complete a lap.
So a solution is to add a system that automatically places players back on the course (or give them the option to do so) when they get too far off the track. This would reorient them correctly so they can resume without wasting time or feeling stuck.
In my own experience, my bike would randomly break. I was able to replicate on both devices. I essentially was left stranded when this happens. A normal player would leave with this happens and likely not come back. The bike needs to be more robust or the game would need a button somewhere in the case this situation happens to them.
I agree and I also managed to play the game with a couple new people and noticed they either can’t figure out where to go or end up getting their bike stuck in a wall. So in addition to providing players with a way to get back onto the track, I’ve also added animated arrows in front of the pit lane to guide players in the right direction.
I figured out a way to detect when that happens and now give players the option to reset their bike to a point that is close to them on the track.
And of course, I appreciate the feedback as I obviously see my game differently from someone who doesn’t have the same personal investment into it.
