[Studio Beta] Beyond Static Skies: Rotate Your Worlds with SkyboxOrientation!

I second this, would be awesome

This would be perfect for a cupola view of earth from a “rotating” space station.

When replying with just “noice” could’ve been summed up into simply liking the post, that’s the reason why their is a 30 limit in the first place so people don’t give short answers or give 1 word responses that could’ve just been a like of the post.

Jokes aside, this is pretty cool! I’m interested in seeing how people use this.

TBH I had no idea that celestial bodies thing existed but I’ve been hoping for it and this skybox orientation update for a while!

Very cool. ETA on skybox layering?

The only thing missing is the dynamic skies/clouds, are there any intentions to complete that feature yet?
Its been a looong time since it was supposed to be made dynamic, we really need those movable clouds and 360 view of the clouds.
@CanadaMoose3

That and the fog created by atmosphere density. I hope they see this before releasing it to the public!

omg thanks you!! I was using pitch, yaw and roll but the Y axis wasn’t following up, you helped me so much!!

This is something that should’ve been added as early as 2011. I’m not complaining that it’s here, far from it, I’m just amazed that it took this long to actually be added. Awesome change either way :+1:

there’s gonna be one of those games playing around with the skybox alongside with the music “Crucified” playing on the background

Will this be available in the future? Would also love to see cloud rotation/position/noise maps/etc. HDRI too!

please allow us to transition skyboxes at some point

Is there a way to detect if a user has this new feature?
I’ve made good use of it in my game, it works perfectly fine in Roblox Studio, but on the actual Roblox app it doesn’t work and I want to know if it works for a user.
(I use a localscript btw)

Cool feature to be honest, good stuff; thank you for the extensive documentation regarding this feature in the OP.

I seriously dislike the abuse of slapping ‘Beta’ on everything engine-related, and you say in your original post that you want this to be in Beta for gathering feedback on improving it.

However, I reserved judgement on the day of the announcement because it’s a genuinely nifty feature and any improvements would always be welcomed.

What I am failing to see 8 days after it being posted, is not a single Roblox Staff member acknowledging any of the posts in this thread with a reply.

You want feedback, but you provide no incentive for people to engage with the Beta to improve the quality of critique.

I don’t know if the team got immediately swept up working on another Beta or fixing outstanding issues elsewhere on the platform, but I’m just going to make it my policy to not use any Studio/Client Beta features going forward - my workflow shouldn’t rely on the tech debt of Beta after Beta, with no public-facing efforts to minimize the concerningly-rapid rate at which new Betas are outpacing the rate of prior Beta features making it to full release.

It’s a studio beta. You can’t use this on the actual game yet. At-least that’s what I think a studio beta is.
