[Studio Beta] Universal Importer: Import Images, Audio, Video, and 3D in One Place

Hi Creators,

Import Queue now supports image, audio, and video files, transforming the 3D Importer into a Universal Importer. When you enable this Beta, the Revamped Asset Manager “Import” entry point will also route to this new importer instead of the legacy Bulk Importer, so you have a single, modern flow for bringing assets into Studio.

How to use the Universal Importer

You can access the Universal Importer through any of the same ways you accessed the 3D Import Queue. In addition, the Revamped Asset Manager’s import button now routes to the Import Queue.

  • The Import button in the Studio Ribbon
  • File > Import menu option
  • Cmd-M (Mac) / Ctrl-M (Windows)
  • The Import button in the Revamped Asset Manager

When selecting files to import, you can choose any file types that were previously supported by the Bulk Importer. You can mix and match images, audio, video, and 3D files in one batch, and they’ll all appear in the Import Queue. Before you start the import, you can also change the Creator (upload inventory) for each file so assets go to the right personal or group inventory.

When importing audio and video files, the Universal Importer will show a confirmation step before uploading, including Robux cost and your upload limits, so you know exactly what you’re spending before you commit.

Key improvements

Compared to the legacy Bulk Importer, the Import Queue has several key improvements:

  • Choose where assets go: Select which Creator inventory (personal or group) each asset is uploaded to.
  • Updated, modern UI: A more responsive, modern interface that’s easier to work with than the legacy Bulk Importer.
  • One importer for all asset types: Import 3D meshes, images, audio, and video from a single, consistent entry point instead of switching between tools.

What’s next

As this rolls out in Beta, we plan for the Universal Importer to fully replace the legacy Bulk Importer.

We’re currently working on:

  • A design refresh aligned with Studio’s global design system
  • Parallelized uploads for certain asset types
  • A “Find In Workspace” action for inserted models

If there are any features you rely on in the Bulk Importer today, or new capabilities you’d like to see in the Universal Importer, please share your feedback in this thread.

This topic was automatically opened after 10 minutes.

Will the Universal Importer allow for batch processing of assets with different upload requirements (e.g., different Robux costs or limits for audio, video, and 3D files) in a single upload, or will each file type need to be processed separately in stages?

I’m grateful for the universal importer because it imports 3d meshes a LOT faster than the old importer when dealing with a lot of meshes but i’ve been experiencing issues where some meshes import empty (as in the meshpart gets created but it doesnt appear in studio) both with old and new when importing a large amount of meshes (eg. 50+). Can you please look into this? Maybe its something with the Asset Privacy Beta?

Example:
What it should look like

What it looks like (the mesh gets imported but it has “no polygons”), for additiona context this is split up into ~15 meshes for collision purposes

If you need more examples or my imports where this happened please reply here or contact me

The only workaround I found is reimporting smaller amount of meshes (eg. 10) instead of all 150 at once (multiple of these roads at once)

Oh nice! I can see how some developers could use the import feature faster. It also saves us from having to open another browser tab and spend ~15s uploading a single asset.

I feel this feature would also assist in developers migrating over to Roblox, or beginning with Studio. It is so much easier to press ‘Import’ over having to find what goes where.
A surprisingly good update for once.

Nice thing to add for sure, it was kinda annoying to navigate through the creator dashboard (it still is just a lil easier lol)

Wish there was an option to retain the legacy layout but retain this functionality. Good change regardless.

This is amazing! I do have 1 very very very small feature request, but it would make my life 10x better.

I currently do not import large amounts of images using the Studio Importer due to 1 very simple problem: When I import all these images into the place, they’re all named “Decal”, which means I have to sift through each one, and manually inspect the Asset ID in an image label to even identify what image it is.

Please could you modify the UX so that importing assets will take the file name, and when inserting it into the place, each asset would be called the same name as the imported asset? To me, this feels rather trivial to do, but would seriously save me so much time.

Amazing, thanks again!

this is very very good, i would like to suggest if you could add drag-and-dropping. little change maybe but could be very useful!!

The importer should be able to generate Decal and MeshPart assets if possible, so that you can later archive the assets, or distribute them on the Creator Store. I’ve never seen any reason to use the importer (unless I’m uploading a rigged model) because it can only generate Image and Mesh assets.

We as a community would REALLY appreciate a lower fee for uploading videos!

Sounds like a great update! Looking forward to testing it out.

I just knew this update would be dropped after I just reuploaded 100+ textures.

It has long been possible to upload multiple files at once in the asset manager.
