[Studio Beta] Updates to Studio Camera That Simplify Navigation

The update broke the old camera controls

Somehow this broke old camera functionality (scrollwheel to change speed)

Also if your going to update the camera could you please at least make it frame independent(its probably something else) but whenever I move my mouse half the time the delta thinks i’ve done a 180 rotation and snaps to somewhere where I clearly didnt move my mouse to.

When I am moving around and experience a lag spike like an autosave, the camera continues listening to the last register before the lag and when the lag is over, my camera teleports further away. Is this fixable? I heard that the camera is decoupled from the frame time.

The camera is one of the most delicate and important parts of the entire editor, the team working on it pushed an unpopular update, and nobody on that team has said anything about it for two weeks.
All I want is configuration settings - that couldn’t be pushed in a hotfix?

To update, there’s a round of fixes / additional settings coming next week (the release on the 11th).

Also, we hear the feedback that the current design isn’t good enough yet.

Hearing is fine, but it’s the lack of communication, e.g. talking about how these specific issues are bad, not just they are bad.

Given the complex web of settings and connected behaviors, it’s very easy to end up “you should just X → but then Y, but you could just Z, actually no because of W” etc trying to discuss the individual potential tradeoffs in isolation.

I think it will be best for us to just iterate more and return for feedback once we have a clear idea of the exact proposed final state instead. Bear with us for a few more weeks while we arrive at that (quick fixes / additional settings still coming next week).

Deleted my last reply seeing this one, will there be settings to turn off the camera tweening? It feels like I am slipping on ice constantly while trying to work up close, even if my camera speed is super slow.

Yes, tweening should have been optional from the get-go, we understand that not everyone likes animation in their tooling.

I don’t think this update is very helpful or necessary. It’s very confusing to learn and I don’t want to waste time trying to relearn how to move through the Roblox Studio workspace. Just give us the option to toggle it if you plan on deleting the legacy camera controls from beta features.

Are you stravant’s alt account?

The problem I have is that I’ve built up an entire year of muscle memory with the previous version of the camera beta, and now I’m stuck between wrestling against this new version and taking a step backwards to the classic camera - neither of which are ideal.
Thanks for hopping back into the conversation regardless, it’s nice to know that someone is actually reading my feedback.

i’d like the team to discuss about the removal of the original Alt + RMB usage. maybe you could make them an option instead of replacing it entirely since the non-beta camera’s Alt + RMB does nothing right now

I have also now found that every time I click and drag with right click to try move/turn, it is opening the right-click menu. It is causing me to constantly open the menu while trying to move, often clicking buttons in the process accidentally, negating parts, changing settings without meaning to, deleting things, inserting other parts. Is this something that people have found is linked to this feature also or just a general issue that appears to have happened at the same time?!

Please make it so that we can disable this in the release. I absolutely hate the smoothing and how slugish the movement is.
Makes studio even worse than it’s already become. It’s just demotivating.
Wish I could just keep the old beta.

I don’t like how extremely slow the camera is on max speed. Slower rotation while holding shift is also quite unhelpful

Probably Roblox trying to accommodate usage of common modeling applications, like Blender, where multi-select is Shift+LMB, where as Ctrl+LMB is shortest-path selection. That said, this new configuration is cheeks, and not worth the smooth camera TBH…

Disappointing to see that none of the criticism has been specifically addressed.
If reverting back to the old better beta is not an option, then why can’t we have a toggle to disable the newer behavior e.g. slowing down the camera rotation while holding shift?

This isn’t durrrr new = bad!!, I loved the new studio UI and explorer. this however is just a genuinely flawed update that feels like its reinventing the wheel.
slowing down camera rotation while holding shift, and swapping shift and ctrl, are completely pointless changes that feel like they were purposely designed to harm peoples’ workflows.

Will not be using the beta until these blatant issues are addressed

exactly, its a good update in paper it was just extremly vibecoded and unfinished i dont know why they put that out now instead of focusing on terrain
