I’m looking for any tips to improve my game’s average session time and Day 1 retention. Right now players complete the tutorial in about 20 seconds and the early gameplay is fast-paced, but my average session length is sitting around ~2.3 minutes from ad traffic. I’d like to push this closer to 3–4 minutes so the game has a better chance of getting picked up by the algorithm. If anyone has advice on improving early-game engagement, first-minute gameplay flow, or small systems/features that can increase short-term retention, I’d appreciate any feedback.
Here’s what your game looks like when you try to play on mobile from portrait mode (which many players will be doing): Basically unplayable
Here’s what it looks like when you turn autorotate on to fix it (i had to draw my phone indent, since it doesn’t show up on screenshots, but it’s accurate):
My feedback / recommendations:
- Disable portrait mode (StarterGui)
- Push out the left side buttons, make them CoreUI safe
- Hide the additional, unimportant UI (everything on the right side and top) until the tutorial is finished
- Make it so you don’t have to run over to the opposite side to do the shooting segment of the tutorial. I spawned on the opposite side, and it made me run all the way over… which didn’t make much sense and was a bit frustrating.
- Reduce the unnecessary running around overall. Having to go back and forth over the bridge feels a bit weird and unintuitive, and even with the arrow, it’s not clear where we’re actually headed.
- Remove unused backpack slots until they’re filled, and make each slot larger. Maybe limit the backpack to prevent it from being too large, or make it automatically scale smaller with more slots added. Right now it’s a bit too small to press on mobile comfortably.
- Make the tutorial text not overlap with top UI (easy if you remove it temporarily for the tutorial, as stated)
- Remove ‘Equipped item’ text. Not sure why it’s there, the equipped item is already highlighted and is visible on the character.
Overall, just test on mobile a lot more. In case you aren’t sure how, you can emulate mobile screens in Test → Emulate device (or, something like that)
improve ur shitty game buddy
cheers for that mate love it mate
I can tell you off rip the EASIEST fix you can do right now is raise the saturation & maybe brightness.
The game is dark as hell. It’s actually awful, it feels as though there’s a black overlay on top of everything, every icon, every object, it’s all dark. Genuinely raise the vibrance / saturation, every game in this genre is more colorful than yours and that has a HUGE impact on retention, whether it’s youtube, movies or video games.
ok thank you for the feedback; will take it into consideration
