Stage: Early Development
Introduction
Welcome to the first development log for Tagged. This project has been in early development for a short time, and the goal is simple — create a fast-paced, movement-based tag game that feels smooth, competitive, and fun to replay.
The main idea behind Tagged is to focus on clean player movement, short but exciting matches, and a variety of maps and modes that keep each round feeling fresh.
Progress So Far
Over the past few weeks, most of the work has gone into setting up the foundation of the game. Here’s a quick look at what’s already done or in testing:
- Most basic animations
- Starter Maps
- Game outline+everything
- Discord
What’s Being Worked On
Development right now is focused on gameplay polish and getting the first round of internal testing ready. Current work includes:
*The entire UI system
*Main gameplay for the game
*Foundation
What’s Next
Looking ahead, the next steps are centered on expanding gameplay and replayability. Plans for the next stage include:
- Adding a full currency and shop system (skins, emotes, and effects)
- Introducing new modes such as Team Tag and Infection Tag
- Global stat tracking and leaderboard setup
- Basic matchmaking and private lobby testing
Goals
The short-term goal is to reach a stable prototype that can be used for small-scale testing. Once we’re confident in the movement and tag mechanics, the focus will shift toward content — new maps, features, and visual polish.
Closing
The first few weeks of Tagged have been about building a strong foundation. There’s still a lot of work ahead, but things are starting to take shape. The next dev log will likely include visuals, gameplay previews, and more details on how the round system ties together.
