Take down troll posts and replies, or increase moderation for them in Roblox-Discussion

Ever since the Developer Forum had the Roblox Discussion category opened, there has been a heap of troll posts, such as the one about micro optimization or coding in binary or stuff like that.

It’d be nice if these could be moderated, or if there was a new flag option “This is a troll post”, to make sure these posts get taken down.
It’s stopped being funny.

God yes. Ever since the category split )intended to make moderation easier/more objective) it’s felt like they’ve flat out stopped moderating the roblox discussion category entirely.

[forgot to mention this]

of course, i don’t mean take down the entire Roblox Discussion forum, but be a bit stricter on it. i think the binary post was allowed because it was semi-related to roblox, but barely.

Although I get this post, we already had moderations target topics by closing them down for seemingly “no reason at all” or “unnecessarily”, (although that can be debated).

Aside from that, if it’s just pure clutter or trolling then yes maybe do take it down, otherwise your best bet is to not partake in conversations at all that you don’t want to be involved in.

Also, what gets classed as funny or not can differ from person to person obviously.

not really

there are funny ones, but eventually at some point, if you keep doing it over and over, it becomes unfunny

e.g.

it gets boring when you spam the same “user banned” and “microoptimization” jokes
i can get some jokes like this that could be funny [sort of.. idk]

Hey there! Appreciate the feedback, and we’ll check in with the mod team. We want to make sure anything that is malicious trolling or not contributing to the forum in any capacity is actioned accordingly so as not to impact our user experience. If you see content that falls into those buckets, please continue to flag as Off Topic for our mods so that we can track, action, and adjust our enforcement where necessary for the new categories.

Creating a new category to allow people to post relatively off-topic but still on the topic of Roblox was a great idea, but the execution was poor. People generally use the Roblox Discussion category to either:

  • Create troll posts
  • Completely unrelated posts to Roblox
  • Spam posts that are created for the same topic

Strict moderation should still be applied within that category, just like other categories.

Strict moderation should still be applied, but over moderation is a bad thing. Roblox could take this post seriously and within a few months with future hindsight, somebody else might create a new topic saying they’re penalised for the smallest of things, or seemingly “none at all”. However I agree with the sentiment:

That category allows for a variety of topics, so it’s no longer that easy for a moderator to take it down. I’m also not asking for too strict moderation because that would just make it the same as before, and there would be no reason for that category to exist.

I feel like moderators just created that category just to dump all of the troll and very off-topic posts in there and just ignore it. Like a trashbin. I hope they take actions necessary to make it feel quite the opposite soon enough.

Moderation is the best it’s ever been right now, don’t ruin it :folded_hands:

Yes, I agree with the good nature behind why OP thinks Roblox should take more action to get rid of certain posts, that do not contribute to discussions at all in Roblox-Discussion, but what I think Roblox should be doing is prioritising the stuff that needs to be taken down and keeping the stuff that doesn’t, rather than creating a scenario where you have a double-edged sword.

For example, if Roblox is already paying enough attention to ambiguously-off-topic posts or grey areas, then they leave no room for dealing with topics that clearly and deliberately break the rules. In this case, if OP’s post is taken too literally, it could potentially exacerbate such problems, especially if discussions get moderated too vigorously. That’s why any strict moderation should still be applied fairly.

If Lounge > Roblox Discussion is a cesspit of trolling or people misusing the intended design of the category, then yes they potentially deserve to be moderated based on the scenario, but balancing the books is the thing that really counts the most, in my opinion. That way, there isn’t genuine people’s posts being both over moderated, whilst clearly off-topic and trolling posts being unnoticed. It’s basically how good Roblox is at telling the difference between the two. Just my view btw.

I have reported some troll post that has zero of sense and a mod said there’s a problem but post is still open.

I’m kinda sick of all of the troll posts there and people being generally annoying in replies. People have lost the plot that this is meant to be a professional forum for developers and not a roblox forum 2.0. The idea of the category is good but nt needs to be moderated way better to avoid what’s currently happening to it.

You know you could just… ignore those posts right?

remember, some things can be funny. of course, seeing the 300 millionth “micro-optimization” joke gets tiring after a while though. even ignoring it. it also doesnt really contribute to the conversation with a joke repeated 300 billion times

The whole point of the lounge section is lax moderation. It’s a containment section for loose and open-ended discussion. Before, people were getting moderated left and right for making one single off topic reply in a thread. I don’t know how many times I’ve gotten little micro-management messages from the mods over some quick random quip in an already non-serious and open ended discussion.

I agree that the lounge is choc full of unfunny posts, but being surprised at the lower moderation is like going into OT and being surprised that no one is talking about roblox. They can’t realistically make the devforum a serious website without wiping out all of it’s current userbase and restarting with an invite-only model like when it began.

yeah i mean, i can get lounge. i do think some of the posts in the lounge actually have good humour, it’s not me saying that all fun out of the lounge should be eradicated

however..
when stuff not even relating to roblox just comes up it just sort of ruins the experience
im not saying it’s meant to be serious. i love the current community, theres just some people who suck

oh boy! i sure do love it when people don’t actually read my post and just go comment on it without actually looking at the points!
