Talent Hub - Thoughts?

Hello devs,

I currently find it frustrating to find any commissions on the talent hub, as it is misused daily. When i go to the “Find Jobs” page, i always find at least one person saying “Heres my portfolio, able to accept jobs” Which is not what its for.

Another thing I’ve noted is that many people want at least a year of experience, which is perfect acceptable, or a portfolio on what you’ve worked on in the past, which is ok too. My problem with this is that really the only way to get a successful game on your portfolio is to do commissions, as being a solo dev is taxing, but to do those, you need a portfolio! This is frustrating.

Also, im not going to mention the bad pay that ppl offer… I just want to know how i can develop my portfolio as a scripter so i get accepted, or at least they reject it and not just… not answer.

Thanks all!

To develop your portfolio i’ll recommend you to either take your time to make a game yourself to have various things to show or make things in studio that people normally look for, like a weapon system or a fight system.
Just open up a new baseplate and set a challenge for yourself, you will eventually get more things to show on your portfolio.

And yeah i think the same, the payments are usually very low, but i think the talent hub could be usefull for finding people for your game (like voice actors or scripters) more easly.

Anyways, I hope I have helped you :]

You’re wrong in my opinion.
I’m going to tell you what it is. You say you want to build a portfolio, and I assume you don’t have a year of experience yet. So, you as a novice beginner, can’t really be expecting to get paid in such early stages of your job.
The real solution for you to build a portfolio? You need to work.. for free.
Yeah.. you see these who offer revenue-shares with no budget, right? Well, these might suck, but see them as opportunities to build portfolio. Even a smaller role, doesn’t have to be all-scripter, because it’s a job for “free”, unless you get lucky and the game does well, so you get these revenue-shares long-term.
But this is the way many people have done it. Once you get portfolio and real games you’ve contributed to, then you can start working paid-terms. First start small, then build yourself.
And also.. yeah, don’t expect high $ payments either.. it’s a dominantly a kids platform. Even me, the most I would even pay for a whole team would be $200. Because, in my opinion, if you want to make good cash from your scripting, then you should go for Steam developers, Unreal Engine, etc.
Anyways, hope my advice can help you. Have sweet dreams.

Yes, i only have about 10 months experience, but that makes sense. I do want to say i am able to do maybe 60% of the jobs in the talent hub (don’t quote me on that). But fair point nobody would want a novice scripter. How would i go about getting free jobs?

Just join those passionate projects that offer revenue-share (%). You’d do fine, just make sure they don’t exploit you by working full-time on a thing you’re not getting paid upfront for and stuff. Once you have a string of your games you’ve contributed to, even 2-3 can help, you can start joining projects that do have a budget.
